West Virginia doesn't roll punt. They don't roll the punter like the Cats. He stands back there with 3 blockers in front of the punter. The Punter still catches and Punts without rolling right or left most of the time. They also gave up a big TD to Louisville when they over ran the punt. Plus they rarely ever punt in the first place. We seem to punt more then we should have to.

They didn't roll punt every time but they did do a roll punt exactly like the cats in the first half and it deflected off a Louisville player and they were lucky to recover. Either way the roll punt sucks...

Yes they do, just not on every punt. They split 3 wide out left bring 3 back to block and rest are on line. On the TD the kicker was supposed to kick to the left were his coverage was and shanked it right giving up the TD because he only had one guy to beat. Earlier in the game he definitely took 3 steps right before kicking the ball.

They didn't roll punt when they were backed up close the their own endzone though. They went with more conventional punt to eliminate the chance of a block. Unfortunetly he shanked it and like you said the returner only had one man to beat on the right side. There special teams pretty much cost them the game so I don't think this is a good argument for the roll punt.

I get grumpy hearing jokes about roll punting when the punch line doesn't have something to do with its death. Very grumpy.CatRowdy wrote:At CC Kramer did joke about getting a punter who could roll left and punt; then we could have both punters in the backfield and the opposing team wouldn't know who the snap was going to.
How's that for a scheme!
I find myself watching football games and admiring high deep driving punts by other teams' punters, and for a moment I fantacize about their punts belonging to my team. Don't get me wrong, I love my team. I love it dearly. But sometimes ... sometimes ... I just wish it's punts looked as good as those other teams' punts.
Now I'm not gonna run off and cuddle up with some other team. I'm just not that kind of fan. But would it be so hard for my team to look in the mirror every now and then, acknowledge how bad its punt is looking, and do something about it? I don't mean just talk about it ... anybody can say we're going to make their punt better .... tomorrow, or next week. I mean make some basic changes to the whole package. I don't want my punter running around on me -- I want him to be a stand-up guy who takes the ball and commits totally and completely to kicking the thing far down the field. I don't want him running into the waiting arms of a defensive player who is bright enough to figure out his game and runs to the same spot. I want my team's punt to look good, and to give my team good field position. My team's punt is only thirty yards long ... [I can't stay in character for this part -- let's just say that it should be better than that].
That's all I want ... and to be told that I'm pretty more often ... but that's another issue altogether.

By far, that is the funniest monologue I have ever read on the roll punt.
(Ok...so it's the only monologue I have ever read on the roll punt).
BAC will performing his one-man show on the roll punt - "Less roll, and more punt" at the Strand Theater for the next two weeks. Unless we make the playoffs, and then he will have an HBO appearance.

"GD it, PETAns piss me off!

As of right now, I cannot complain about my team's punt. In fact, it's dreamy.
