I love this idea. I think I'll do that next year.

We are looking at buying an RV. I told my wife that we could camp out at the stadium next year on Friday nights for home games. She hasn't quite bought into that yet; of course we live less then a mile from the stadium as the crow flies :)
We camp at least a couple of games a year; usually the later games that start earlier. We have some friends that come down and start the tailgating on Friday night; it definitely helps get the game day mood going. I'll be if you try it, you'll like it!

I was wondering how long it would be for a Griz fan to take a jab.

I know it may come as a shock to you, but some people do not give a hoot about the Griz or their stadium. This includes many fine folks from Missoula.

See that is where most of us Cat fans are wrong. The sooner we come to the realization that Missoula is the center of not only the football world, but the entire universe the better off we will be. In fact I am still wondering why the rest of the Big Sky Conference even plays one another. We should really schedule four games/year - 3 out of conference and then the griz, in Missoula of course. Playing at any other Division I-AA stadium really is a waste of time.

I did the same thing when my boys were growing up, both football and basketball. Beauty of it was my ex moved to Missoula, so my kids would invite their Missoula buddies to Bozeman for a weekend and a game. Obviously some of their buds were from griz families so there was some good natured ribbing going on.

What perspective? Cats have half the crowd, and half the stadium!!!

Really? Wow, I might just have to try that for the next game then! I have never partied the night before in the tailgate area :)

Just don't get it, do you? We would NOT trade for ANY reason!! That's what being a Cat fan is all about. Go ahead and start a thread in SMACK about your supposed superior atmosphere. We've heard it all before.

I think the biggest thing is we don't take for granted the fact that we have something special here in Bozeman. I think it's over done in Missoula and it's a market economy out there. Our atmosphere and game day experience is very workmanlike and people truly appreciate the experience for what it is an not the fact that everyone else is doing it so we have to do it.

Very well put. I agree that MSU's seems more family/workman like as well. Seems like it is definately more down home "Montana" flavor to me. Tailgating in the same area you get to see/meet a lot of the same people/kids over the years so it almost feels like a Bobcat family atmosphere. I totally agree :)

I am with you! Over the years we have seen many kids come over for a burger, etc., get to know them. We generally pack tons more stuff than we need, I am sure you all do too, just to have the people stop by. Wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING IN THE WORLD!! :D

I fully understand and appreciate that the cats wouldn't trade their game day experience for the one in Missoula. However, to make the claim that people are at WA-Griz simply to be seen or because it's the thing to do is just down right ridiculous. If that were the case, it wouldn't be as loud as a rock concert in there. And there certainly wouldn't be 6,000 UM fans travelling to Portland for a game, and 6,500 to Spokane. Fans go to games at UM for one reason: they love the Griz. To suggest otherwise is asinine.

What you griz fans don't understand is that we have a packed crowd, like you. We are noisy, like you. What people are talking about here are the aspects around the stadium and the whole day. I don't think either side can say theirs is better. A true bobcat would never completely enjoy the Griz experience and a true Griz would never truly enjoy a bobcat game. There will always be an undertone of comparison to keep a true comparison. We love going to the bobcat games, tailgaiting with friends, filling a packed stadium and watching some football.

I unfortunately can't make it to too many games. But the one I went to this year was an incredible atmosphere (EWU game). We arrived a few hours early and took in the pregame tailgate experience.

Like someone said earlier, a place to meet old friends. I met up with a friend that I hadn't seen in almost 10 years. The atmosphere of the place made it seem like we hadn't seen each other for 10 days. A couple beers, some hot chili at halftime, my kids getting to play football with everybody else's kids. Football hitting cars without the owners giving a hoot. Met many new great people. It felt like being invited into someone's home (just several thousand people reside in that home :) ).

The atmosphere around Bobcat Football has been completely redefined since I was a student. I have been to a Griz game or two and although there were groups of tailgate areas, and in its own right fun, it did not have the same "down home" feel to it.

After being in Pocatello yesterday, there is no comparison that bobcat stadium is the best place to be. I did have a blast in the Holt Arena, but us fans had to work very hard to make some noise for the players. There is just no place like home.
