This is where I stand on this issue as well.coloradocat wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 8:49 pmRoot for a blow out. I think that's more important than who wins.
We lost to SDSU in 2OT essentially by one yard in our second game with a new OC/QB combo. If we can beat the griz by 14+ and the Marker margin is at least that much we could have an argument to jump the loser. Without both of those we Cat-griz might be a battle for the 4 seed.

Well, until NDSU comes back to reality, which won’t happen anytime soon because like the Big Sky, the MVFC is made up of 3-4 really good teams and the rest are a complete joke. Sure teams can beat them in the regular season, and maybe once every 10 years in a playoff game/NC game, but until they are missing the playoffs, their fans are seriously the worst fan base in FCS. UM is second.

Re: Which DSU to root for this weekend
I just want everyone on this thread to take a moment and think how fortunate we are to be talking about how we might get a #1 or #2 seed, AGAIN, this year. We've had what, four straight years where we are in the mix for a 1 or 2? It doesn't feel that long ago (at least to me) that the playoffs were out of reach, let alone a high seed. Thankful.

Re: Which DSU to root for this weekend
We went from "i'm so excited we're going to the playoffs" to "we really need to be a top 2 seed to have a real shot at the championship game" in very little time, and not just because a handful of other teams jumped to the FBS.84CatGrad wrote: ↑Tue Oct 21, 2025 3:45 pmI just want everyone on this thread to take a moment and think how fortunate we are to be talking about how we might get a #1 or #2 seed, AGAIN, this year. Yeah, me and my fellow Bobcat fans in 2035 when the Cats manage to win their 10th straight National Championship.GoCats18 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 7:04 pmWell, until NDSU comes back to reality, which won’t happen anytime soon because like the Big Sky, the MVFC is made up of 3-4 really good teams and the rest are a complete joke. Re: Which DSU to root for this weekend
I wanted to give my more nuanced belief about what is best for the Cats in the Marker Game. My long version is in my post "Path to the Playoffs". Essentially, I present four scenarios. #4 is SDSU blowout. Not going to happen. Maybe 5% chance or less. #3 is SDSU close win which is what most posters say is best for the Cats. Here is what I see if this happens. SDSU becomes #1, NDSU drops to #2. NDSU wins out and stays at least #2. SDSU may win out or may drop the UND game at the Alerus center. If they win out, they stay #1 and NDSU #2 and Tarleton stays #3 and Cats get #4 if they beat the Gris. However, SDSU loses to UND, then Bison #1, Tarleton #2 (if they don't lose) and SDSU #3 and Cats #4 because there is NO WAY we jump SDSU if we both have 1 FCS loss and we lost to SDSU.
However, if NDSU wins (most likely fairly close game), then NDSU stays #1 and SDSU #2 or maybe #3. However, now if SDSU loses to UND or even Ill State, now they have 2 FCS losses and Cats only have one FCS loss. In this case, I could see NDSU #1, Tarleton #2, Cats #3 and Gris or SDSU or even UND #4. If Tarleton State drops a game, then we would be #2. Basically, this is the ONLY reasonably possible scenario where the Cats could nap the #2 seed. Sure, wild things could happen like NDSU losing 1 or 2 more games, Tarleton losing 2 games, etc. But those are a wing and a prayer at best. The scenario I lay out is reasonably possible IF SDSU loses. I don't believe the Jacks are as good as some think. Sure that damages our resume but ultimately 2 Jacks losses and only 1 FCS loss for the Cats is the best route to #2 or #3 seed. Of course, every possible scenario requires the Cats to win out and crush the Gris in Missoula (by no means a given - going to be a huge chore).
But will know where we stand both with the results in about three hours.

Ndsu up 14-0 in the 1st quarter. I'm not watching the game so I don't know what's happened. Just score watching.
Oh looks like the sdsu qb isn't playing.

38-7 Final (and not remotely that close). Now we find out if the voters let SDSU off the hook because they didn't have their QB. I still think 4 is their floor.
