Listen to the griz fan pod from Sunday. Colter is on it. Interesting listening to his insights.

Yeah - their narrative what the griz didn’t do more than what we did to dictate terms checked out for a bunch of griz fans.

The Griz did well vs the run game, so did UC Davis. To a point. It can’t be forgotten that Humphrey didn’t play much in either game. Julius Davis had no carries in the first half vs Davis and none in the second half vs UM.
Once Jones hit that big run, UM wasn’t the same. Once Julius Davis entered the UC Davis game they weren’t the same.
MSU’s second field goal wasn’t a result of UM stopping that drive. The kick came on first down from the UM 32.
UM and UC Davis played well on defense but not incredibly well considering the circumstances.
My big takeaway is that MSU can beat teams even when it is subpar in the run game. But MSU’s subpar run game is still better than average.

The griz didn't do well vs the run, we had 326 yards on the ground. That was just above our average. The argument could me made that without the 88 yard run we're back down to the mid 200s but it's not the way the game was going. If not for that big run we would have just had 10 rushes to cover the same ground. At worst it would have taken two drives to score instead of one. Their only moral victory is that we only had 2 runs of over 25 yards instead of 5 or 6, but when the total is over 300 that's still nothing to hold your head up about.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 10:19 pmThe Griz did well vs the run game, so did UC Davis. Re: Relive yesterday with Skyline....
Griz offense has been in the midst of a breakdown for a month+. Imagine having Eli Gillman and Nick Ostmo....and running the ball 14 times total with them in a rivalry game on the road.....Montana rushed for less than 100 yards against Cal Poly, UC Davis and Montana State. Against Davis and MSU, the Griz ran the ball a total of 49 times and threw it a total of 79 times.CodyCat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:22 pmI listened to most of Monday show this morning. MSU's defense was as advertised. The MSU defense has held teams to below their averages all season long.
Gillman and Junior Bergen had 15 total touches against the Cats. The Griz haven't thrown the ball down the field other than against Portland State in six weeks. All pretty bad play calling if you ask me.

Re: Relive yesterday with Skyline....
I guess the notion is that the Griz played a heck of a lot better defensively than most people who had watched them throughout the year anticipated. They are not good. They have middling Big Sky talent. Idaho State and Montana are comparable defensively in my opinion.coloradocat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 9:29 amThe griz didn't do well vs the run, we had 326 yards on the ground. I fully anticipated the Bobcats to rush for 500+ yards, no exaggeration. In our group text, Tootell put the over-under for rushing yards by the 'Cats at 695

I thought there was not one scenario in which the Griz would string together consecutive stops (they did) or force ANY punts, if I'm being honest. I thought the over/under point total in the game of 58.5 would be blown out of the water because I figured the Cats would score seven touchdowns at the bare minimum.
When Ryder Meyer and Trevin Gradney stuffed Mellott on fourth and short with 5 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter on a 4th down and the Griz were down 20-3, the Griz had officially played way better than anticipated. Then the dam broke, Montana State piss pounded them for the final 20 minutes of the game and the rest is history.
That defense gave up 55 points to a Weber State team that scored 17 points in a LOSS to Northern Colorado...

I'm working hard on getting my show syndicated in Bozeman. We have a statewide angle daily, no matter of where it originates. We cover high schools and colleges on a Montana-wide level and are on statewide TV on SWX every single day. It is also podcasted.Joe Bobcat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:51 pmThat would be nice but I think Colter is on record that he loved living in Bozeman but that it has changed so much that he wouldn't move back there.coloradocat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:35 pmSometimes I wish Bozeman had an ESPN affiliate station and they could convince Colter to move back.CodyCat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:22 pmI listened to most of Monday show this morning. I mostly would not move back to Bozeman because we can't afford it. I moved back to Missoula when my dad died to help my mom. Tried to move back to Bozeman but simply couldn't afford a house, especially on a journalism salary. We can barely afford a house in Missoula, and that's with me having three incomes and my wife having a really good job

Re: Relive yesterday with Skyline....
I messed this stat up in my head. The Griz got a total of five stops - three punts, two turnovers on downs.
The stat I was TRYING to reference, but bumbled while live was this: Montana State scored on six of its first seven possessions offensively in SIX of its first 10 games and had more than 40 points before the third quarter was over in seven of its first 11. No team allowed just two touchdowns on Montana State's first eight possessions until the Griz.
So the ACCURATE stat is this: Montana prevented Montana State from scoring touchdowns on six of its first eight possessions, giving up two touchdowns, two field goals and forcing three punts and a turnover on downs. Other than UC Davis, the Cats scored six touchdowns before the mid-point of the third quarter every game this season.

Picking nits, but there was only one turnover on downs. 11th drive ended in victory formation.Colter_Nuanez wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 9:53 amI messed this stat up in my head. The Griz got a total of five stops - three punts, two turnovers on downs.

Man I hear ya, left Bozeman in 2011. Biggest mistake I ever made. Been trying to move back ever since, just can’t swing it.Colter_Nuanez wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 9:49 amI'm working hard on getting my show syndicated in Bozeman. Ya, I've always thought it silly when people say... well if not for that really long run or two, we held them to 3 YPC. As if it's EVER the case when a team runs for 8 YPC that they literally get 8 years each carry. That's how a kick ass running game works. You pound and pound and pound, hopefully getting 4 or 5 at a time, you get a couple bigger ones, get stuffed a couple times, and then eventually the dam breaks and you get the monsters.coloradocat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 9:29 amThe griz didn't do well vs the run, we had 326 yards on the ground. Re: Relive yesterday with Skyline....
I think most of us thought it would be more of a rout than it was but that more due to the game plan than the griz performance. Even just 4 or 5 passes in the second half would have opened things up more and we score a couple more times. Instead we went one dimensional and showed the griz that even when we hold ourselves back they don't have a chance. They did well enough but we didn't unleash our full offense because we didn't have to.Colter_Nuanez wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 9:47 amI guess the notion is that the Griz played a heck of a lot better defensively than most people who had watched them throughout the year anticipated. This all seems so obvious to the casual fan as well, especially when you break it down further. How come Bobby seems so determined to not make a change?
