I predict this will be the first of three victories we will have over bear teams this year...

My brother, sister and nephew all went to Maine. In honor of those 3, MSU 38, Maine 3.

Re: Cats vs. Maine Gold Rush predictions
Overall, MSU has not been great on the road in recent years. The first two wins didn't get me overly excited, but they were on the road and I don't want to lose sight of how important it is to get road wins. But the Cats have been much better at home in recent years. I expect this to be a dominant win, even though it looks less dominant at the end with starters resting. 48-17 Bobcats in a bit of a yawner.

Re: Cats vs. Maine Gold Rush predictions
Hey hey Bobcat Nation! BearDown here representing our Maine Black Bears!! Was hoping this was a trip I'd be able to make this season but couldn't swing it...this is one of the greatest away trips we've had in our history. Right up there alongside our trip to Miss St, NDSU, Montana, and our road playoff trips. A little about us...Since our run in '18 we're now on our 3rd HFBC in 6 years. We've won just 3 of our last 17 games. Unfortunately the momentum from that great '18 run never propelled us into the upper echelon of FCS programs like some of us had hoped. Covid happened...then the portal...and now it feels like we're more of a feeder program (let's face it, like a lot of FCS programs have become) for players seeking better opportunities. We had always prided ourselves on developing our talent, coming together as a team over the harsh winters and limited distractions that Orono has to offer, and then making a playoff run once or twice every 4 to 5 years.
We've always had great respect for Montana St and it should be a great atmosphere for your first home game. Our QB is a transfer from Mercer (like some have alluded to here) that is athletic and made some good decisions in game 1. Our leading RB was a transfer from your way...I said when I saw him last week that he looked more like a FB then a TB and according to your board he was in fact a FB when he was on your roster. We have a long way to go as a program. If we can play mistake free, play hard, and not have a slew of penalties it'd be a big success if it's a 2-3 score game at the end of it. Wish we were in a better spot but we are what we are...a team that has to grow and learn how to win. Lemme know if you've got any questions! Annnd GO BLACK BEARS!!!!

Not that it has any relevance on a prediction but I was observing that we don’t often play two UM Ursa(s) in a year. You can speculate who is Ursa Major and who is Ursa Minor…. UM Black Bears or um gris.
My only season prediction is 28-7 Bobcats.

This is pretty much what I'm thinking. I feel like Maine is a LOT better than UT Tech, but we'll see how they each do throughout the season. Yes I know we have a big advantage at home, but I don't know if we're going to destroy them like some posters are thinking.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

I predict some sort of kerfuffle over the tailgating situation.

Re: Cats vs. Maine Gold Rush predictions
I predict that no one knows whether the officials will call holding this year or not.
Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.

Re: Cats vs. Maine Gold Rush predictions
Refs are only allowed to call holding on the Home Team in Bobcat Stadium. In return they get to call false start on the visiting team a maximum of 3 times. In addition to that after they have called their 3 false start penalties on the visiting team they are now allowed to call excessive noise violation on the home crowd.

Re: Cats vs. Maine Gold Rush predictions
I think all Cat holdings were on run plays. Getting to QB is tough as they do not call those holds often.

I appreciate you popping on the board. Its wild how down Maine has been. They have a solid program with tradition. I think they will get things back on track. Regardless of that, these games are good for the FCS. Two good programs from two good FCS conferences.BearDown wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 2:08 pmHey hey Bobcat Nation! Its unfortunate that you wont be able to make the trip. MSU's run out is one of the best in all of college football and until someone shows me something better, its the best in the FCS. MSU has huge pride and tradition for its rodeo program. Not that long ago, the women won the National Championship. Maybe 2021(?). The rodeo team, on horses, leads the team onto the field. Its electric and its become a massive deal for Bobcat fans as well as opposing team fans (except the gris).
How will Maine do in the CAA this year? How many teams from the CAA do you think will make the playoffs?
Hating the griz since 02.

Re: Cats vs. Maine Gold Rush predictions
Hey Cody and Bobcat Nation....Yeah, we had been a solid program for 20ish years. I would have loved to have seen the gameday atmosphere in Bozeman!! Our home gameday atmosphere is absolutely nothing to write home about in comparison (and even not in comparison). I hesitate to mention it on your board but Maine Football "historians" still speak of the best away gameday atmosphere EVER being at Grizzly stadium and that it was louder than it was at Mississippi St (who we played that same season). Hoping that your environment takes the lead for the best gameday atmosphere the Black Bears have been to after this weekend's game (let's face it -no one wants the Grizzlies to lead in anything)!CodyCat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 12:42 pmI appreciate you popping on the board. Love the passion that's been shown towards your program and how successful you've been -certainly a champion for FCS football.
I'm not sure how Maine will fare this season. It's such a revolving door of talent on the team. Even with 15 returning starters there seems to be such turnover, and little continuity amongst players and coordinators, that it's honestly difficult to measure how good you'll be and also evaluate how good the other teams will be given their turnover as well. The CAA is NOT what it used to be...the losses of JMU and certainly Delaware are crushing. Feels like a matter of time before Nova and William and Mary find their way out the door too. Replacing teams of their caliber with Bryant, Campbell, Hampton just isn't the same. For 30 years you could take the top 4-5 teams in the Atlantic 10/CAA and go toe to toe with any team in FCS. Now? Maybe the top 2? top 1? And the Big Sky and MVFC have just separated themselves so much now that the CAA won't be closing the gap anytime soon -if ever.
I mean, just look at our two teams alone -we have your backup FB as our starting TB right now and you've taken one of our best weapons in Rohan. We did manage to secure Peevey somehow, which honestly is a head scratcher for many -but here he is (thankfully!). Excited to see how we perform out there...if we can hang with you and keep it even relatively close that will speak volumes about us heading in the right direction. We gotta start again somewhere -and the last 2 seasons have NOT been it. Best of luck to you and your boys on Saturday!!!

That would be a disappointing pot. It was over $15,500 for gold rush last year
