Jones also had play on Mellott td where snap was bad, mesh was messed up, he turned and got in way for a block to assure at least first down. Another where he blocked, got knocked down got up and caught pass for first down. Big time plays.

Re: Play of the Game?
Very clean game. That one was super impactful. Came on first drive of second half, quick throw completed for first down taken away and I think 2 plays later the hit on mellott leading to TD. Put us behind sticks so they could bring pressure.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 8:36 pmConner Moore did have one false start on the first second half possession, but overall they did a great job for having two tackles making their first starts and the other three guys playing new positions.grizzh8r wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 8:32 pmWhat I was most impressed with from this game was the complete absence of any procedure penalties on a reshuffled and honestly somewhat makeshift offensive line. HUGE kudos to the Donjoy Mafia. I don't think I've ever seen that from an MSU team in my 25+ years of watching/listening. Correct me if I'm wrong...
For having all 5 either first starts or new positions that was excellent. Crowd noise probably no factor and they must not simulate snap counts and shift like some opponents

Re: Play of the Game?
This will be an unusual vote, but here it is...
With about 10 minutes left in the game the Lobos had a solid drive going and were down to the 23 with a 3rd a 5. I'm certain they were in 4 down territory since the wind was freakish at the moment. My play of the game goes to the 2 yard TFL on 3rd down. Instead of 4th and manageable it became 4th and 7 putting Bronco in an impossible situation. Can't blame him for going for the FG, but there wasn't any way that poor kid was going to make that kick in that moment. That missed FG triggered the rest of the comeback.

Yep, the end of the punt was 1:59 I think, so it didn’t matter.

Re: Play of the Game?
I saw a post on a Facebook thread that gave Adam Jones the nickname "A-bomb" and I thought that was pretty good

I think you go back and watch that entire last drive, Adam Jones put on a clinic for spacial awareness, protection, hussle, blocking downfield, and speed. That kid has some juice. Even on a play where he didn’t have the ball and it was past him downfield, he was hussling downfield looking for a block and not putting his hands on his hips. He keeps that up, he’s gonna be my favorite Bobcat.

Did Jones run track in high school? If so what were his times? If not seems like a real missed opportunity.

This needs to be talked about more. That was a 3rd and 6 play and without that catch, the Cats are trying to kick a field goal to tie the game.

Re: Play of the Game?
Agree, and man when you look at that final drive almost EVERYBODY on the entire O had clutch plays. Of course Tommy, Adam, Scottre, Junior, Ty, Rohan (Again not being talked about enough...) all had clutch plays, and the OL... truly a team effort. When I watched the replay again, Tommy went 6 for 9 and of the three incompletions, one ball was tipped, one looked to be a miscommunication between Tommy and Ty (Ty was open), and the last one was a ball thrown too low to Taco but probably was possible to catch. The announcers commented on how that might have been a good thing that Taco didn't haul it in.

Re: Play of the Game?
It may have already been mentioned but go check out the second and five play on the game winning drive.
Jones is blocking in pass protection, gets knocked to the ground in the mosh pit, gets up and has the presence of mind to check on Mellott, sees he’s still looking for a receiver and breaks to an open spot, makes the catch, gets his foot down and stops the clock.

Re: Play of the Game?
Looking at the Mhsa site looks like Adam only ran track as a senior. His state times where 11.26 100 meter and 200 meter was 23.12 if I heard correctly during an interview with Coach he said that Adam played baseball most of high school. But if others have more information on this topic go for it.Long Time Cat wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 9:14 amDid Jones run track in high school? If so what were his times? Re: Play of the Game?
Absolutely. McCullouch is the uncontested leader of the receiver group and plays like that lead to good things in practice and in future games. Great way to earn everyone's trust.

Just a shout out for the offensive line and especially Cole Sain, the only bad snap I recall was the high one that led to a Tommy Touchdown.

1,000 percent! Somebody else posted something on one of these threads pointing out that the starting five O Linemen that started and played all game vs UNM..... were all playing positions where they had never started before. That seems pretty astounding.

Re: Play of the Game?
I went back a few times and watched that play and assignments. When everything comes together and people get to where they’re supposed to be, it almost looks scripted haha. Everyone executed. Specifically, Sain, Wehr, and the short side receiver all got “there”.luckyirishguy25 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 7:49 amYou nailed everything except Heart...
