Re: Hardy
I am *really* surprised not to see Hardy on the practice squad, as he's a classic developmental prospect. Less so Lance, who, unfortunately, didn't get it done in his regular-season opportunities last year or in this year's preseason. Also very surprised that Kidd was left off and have to think some OL-hungry team will pick him up. Backup OL with positional versatility don't grow on trees.
Happy Ty made it, though.

Re: Hardy
"Stay ready" will be the mantra for Lance, Lewis, and Daniel the next five months. There is a reason Mike Person played on like 8 different teams. The NFL is a fickle business so you almost have to keep ready until it feels like too much time has passed for an opportunity.Travelingcat wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 4:39 pmI am *really* surprised not to see Hardy on the practice squad, as he's a classic developmental prospect. Re: Hardy
Great News! I was really surprised that both he and Kidd were not on practice squads and expected someone would pick them up.
He's a hard worker with great athleticism. . .
The biggest thing for these guys now is to stay in the system, so people get used to looking at them as NFL players.
With the larger practice squads now, it is much harder to make it back to the league as a street free agent

Re: Hardy
Just read this morning that Hardy got promoted to the active squad this week for the Bears. I guess the only reason to watch the dumpster fire of a game between the Bears and the Broncos is to watch 2 former Bobcats in the game. And I am down in the Denver area this coming weekend with family who are Broncos fans so I will be watching the game

This could change as the week goes on of course, but Daniel is back to being listed on the practice squad on the Bears online roster. He was on the active roster last week but was one of the Inactive players for the game itself.chadtothebone wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:32 amJust read this morning that Hardy got promoted to the active squad this week for the Bears. Re: Hardy
Teams are allowed to call up players from the PS to play in the game that week up to 4 times per season. So he made the 53 (55) but didn’t make the 48 (only 48 players active on game day.)MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:38 amThis could change as the week goes on of course, but Daniel is back to being listed on the practice squad on the Bears online roster. Re: Hardy
Does anyone know if they are part of the 53, do they get league minimum pay for that week as "active" and not practice squad pay? - EDIT --- Found the answer. All 53 do get at least league minimum for weeks on active roster. From my calculations that raises their pay from 15K/practice squad week to about 42K/active week.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 9:18 amTeams are allowed to call up players from the PS to play in the game that week up to 4 times per season. Re: Hardy
That got me to thinking about how much time a player needs to get vested in the NFL retirement system. The system is somewhat complicated but if Daniel gets another two games on a roster this season and three games next year, he can get a pension from the NFL when he turns 55. Not enough money to live on, but still cool.RockyBearCat wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:22 amDoes anyone know if they are part of the 53, do they get league minimum pay for that week as "active" and not practice squad pay? - EDIT --- Found the answer. Re: Hardy
Yeah, this is actually a huge deal financially for players who are sort of marginal roster guys. Hopefully, Daniel can do even better than that.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 7:05 pmThat got me to thinking about how much time a player needs to get vested in the NFL retirement system.
