Diss is such a softy on the basketball court, why does everyone think he'd amount to anything on the football field.HelenaCat95 wrote:Only if we can borrow Dissly.mslacat wrote:With all of the QB's the football team is racking up, any chance you will let the basketball team borrow Desin from time to time. Because he was an excellent WR for Bozeman High.Cat Pride wrote:Diss is such a softy on the basketball court, why does everyone think he'd amount to anything on the football field.HelenaCat95 wrote:Only if we can borrow Dissly.mslacat wrote:With all of the QB's the football team is racking up, any chance you will let the basketball team borrow Desin from time to time. He was also an excellent basketball player in high school too, but that hasnt translated into anything on the court.longhorn_22 wrote:Because he was an excellent WR for Bozeman High.Cat Pride wrote:Diss is such a softy on the basketball court, why does everyone think he'd amount to anything on the football field.HelenaCat95 wrote:Only if we can borrow Dissly.mslacat wrote:With all of the QB's the football team is racking up, any chance you will let the basketball team borrow Desin from time to time. Nick is as good an athlete as I have seen in MT high school athletic ranks, but I dont think he has improved one bit since high school. I hate it when people say this, mostly because few if any of us truly know the kids playing at MSU, but I just dont see any drive, desire, hustle, want, out of Diss. I think he is lazy and a waste of amazing athletic abilities. He gets by on his athletic abilities alone, not on his talent and I havent seen any improvements since coming to MSU 3 years ago. At best, Nick is the same player he was when he graduated high school, at best. There was an article about Nick in the Chronicle last year talking about Nicks struggles since coming to MSU and he so much as said I havent worked as hard as I should have....
Coincidentally, Nick fits in great with Durham and his ho-hum personality. Nick wouldnt last 2 weeks on Kramers team.

I dont mean to crack on Diss. I am just disappointed that someone with all that talent hasnt learned to take control on the court and dominate out there.
My dream for this hoops team would be for Diss to actually take some assertiveness and lead these guys. Nick, you are bigger and stronger than any 2-guard in the league, why dont you post them up when they match up with you? You are also quicker than any 3 or 4 who tries to guard you, why do you not take them off the dribble?
Force your will on the game Nick. Stop waiting for things to come to you... PLEASE! You should be one of the best players in the league, and if you started playing and leading like one, I think this team would really take off.
Now, how did this subject get stuck in the middleo of a football topic?

I think Nick is stuck between being a guard and a forward. He looks to me like he would like to slash to the bucket but can't handle the ball well enough to make it through traffic. He also can't shoot well enough to be effective from outside.
The good news is, he can jump like Nico Harrison...the bad news is...he also shoots like him! The advantage Nico had was that he could handle the ball in traffic!

If I understand it correctly, he was injured for the last part of the season.Go Scats Go wrote:Back to subject. Why did they add this guy? Im not trying to bash. But he only threw for 1800 yards in 11 games. They have Desin. They have other QBs. I saw that the cats were the only offer he had. What gives. Is he going to be at another poss?

Don't be so hard on scats. I believe he was asking a serious question, and a valid one at that.
But to answer scats, why wouldn't we want this guy? Worst case, he redshirts. Then in 07 he'll be a freshman, Carpenter and Rolovich will be seniors, and Desin will also assumedly be a frosh. So by the time this kid is a sophmore it will be either his job, Desins, or some other factor.
I don't see any reason why we wouldn't pick up a HS QB?

Scats,
So, we currently have Carpenter, Coppack, Rolovich, Desin, and now Rasmussen. Obviously Desin will redshirt, and no doubt Rasmussen will also. It's also been openly discussed that Desin may not play QB.
So, are you asking your OWN team your question?
Swogger, Washington, Bergquist, Stapp, and Selle. Only Selle can redshirt, meaning you will be looking at 4 active scholarship QB's next fall. Washington will no doubt quit/leave; that was obviously another of the genuis recruiting moves by Hauck, eh?

I agree. I was hoping Hauck could spend some time with Kramer so he could learn how to have the same success with his recruits. I just wish we could be like the cats and have 100% of our recruits be successful.El_Gato wrote:

The GRIZ, a quarter century of total football dominance over the cats.

Cats are in an ideal QB grooming situation. Carpenter/Rolovich are both capable of handling QB duties while Rassmussen can RS (unless he's good enough to beat those two out). If he RS, then he would be projected to start his RS-soph year. Whether or not the players actually pan out is another guess, but this is the ideal situation for QBs if you ask me.
By the way, Desin will get his fair shake at QB in August, but he is not going to play there very long. Safety/slot receiver is his future, and that future is bright for Mark

This is somewhat the same discussion we had in here last year only we were questioning why Coach stockpiled so many receivers. None of these kids have proved anything to any of the coaches, just like Travis hadn't four years ago. I think they, better than any of us, know what holes they need to fill before spring practice and during winter conditioning.
Care to wager how many kids we'll probably lose to academics between now and next fall? How many will blow a knee playing basketball? Drop a weight on their toe?
Geezzzz, until I get to see how they act in Great Falls, how they play in the spring, I'm not about to let my little ones get excited about the next Jon Borchart, Joe Bignell, Don Haas, Travis, Ron East or Ueland, Mark Fellows...
