Reading both of your previous posts HiLine, I think we can assume that Costello is more of an AD than Fields could’ve dreamed of being. That’s my assumption anyway. I think the optics of this whole situation are truly ugly. If Housewright gets terminated and acquitted, MSU will be in the Mike Kramer boat ride all over again. Do I know what’s the best case scenario…..nope. But I do truly believe in innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Not what we can only ponder on BN.
I am guessing HR and legal have been heavily involved on how to move forward. I am guessing that Vigen and Costello have front row seats, but they are not the ultimate decision makers. Additionally, I don’t think you can let House work while we wait for a finalization of the legal process. Basically suspended with pay. If his contract is up for renewal during that time, you don’t renew.

Great post! Fields and Gamble would have bankrupted the university were they allowed to continue in their "leadership" capacity and their idiotic knee-jerk decisions. Montana has a long history of Henry Plummer type law enforcement personnel and dubious district attorneys. Let this play out in court along with Willie Mack's. I believe we can now put Willie Mack's to rest.

It wasn't the firing that got them in trouble.

The best solution would be for Mr. Housewright to resign. He obviously knows he messed up big time and stepping away would be in the best interest of MSU Football and Montana State University.

Having said that, how can you fire someone until it’s actually finalized legally? Seems like if you fire someone because of what the report is, you could jump the gun and open yourself up to a huge legal battle if the said employee doesn’t even get a dui. Due process is what this country is founded on. Too many judge judies in this world, who read a headline and have all the answers.
Yep, this is what several of us have been saying. There really is a process that has to be followed.

I feel like the little third grader tattling on their friends with this post, but after our QB Club meeting where we met the coaches, I had some concerns with one of the coaches having four beers and no meal and then driving a pretty long distance back to Bozeman. I know these are grown men and need to be responsible for their decisions, but it is becoming clear that there needs to be some higher standards or protocals for their drinking habbits. We run a pretty classy program, but this is one of black eye areas.

I don’t know if anybody has said this or not, but what if the policy is set by the AD? I ate lunch at the canary yesterday and a former coach was in there, won’t say his name, and he said when Fields was the AD he told all coaches in a huge group meeting if they got a DUI they were gone. Zero tolerance policy. It got me thinking, what if all of this isn’t Vigen’s decision like so many think. Maybe it’s a policy set by the AD, which makes more sense to me, and Vigen actually doesn’t have any authority regarding legal matters. Just a thought.
When Fields was AD one of the football coaches pulled a gun in a bar and it went off into the ceiling. There was even a bit wrote in Sports Illustrated reporting on the incident. The coach was not terminated. So please tell us more about how Fields was holding coaches to such a high standard...

4 beers? After 4 bears I would probably be at .0004. Maybe his were those 12% craft beers.

The moral of the story is if I'm driving a University vehicle a long distance, I'm not have 4+ beers on an empty stomach and then crawling behind the wheel and heading home. I guess I just don't find a need to gamble that way.

I know what your saying and yes, probably not worth it but to me 4 beers is not much of a gamble. Maybe 10.

Have you ever been tested after four beers (or bears, as you wrote) on an empty stomach? You may be surprised.

Exactly. You’re definitely getting a DUI after four beers.

Time frame matters. 4 beers in an hour or 4 in 4 hours

All of this is pointless argument. If you're going to drink ANYTHING, don't drive. It's really that simple. As the ads say "buzzed driving is drunk driving".

I’m sure I could have had at least 100 DUIs while in college. I did get one 30+ years ago when I was 21. It’s not joke. We might all joke about it but once one of us kill’s someone or someone we love dies the joke is over.

I was tested on a new breathalizer that had been calibrated by the police dept after 2 rum and cokes (my mix) so 5 full shots. I was 0.03.

Then let's close down tailgating and beer sales at the BB games. It's as simple as that.
