So how hard is it for Kramer to fire himself from coaching the special teams?

Can we start a special "Bobcat Nation" scholarship fund, earmarked specifically for a punter? Certainly we can give up one offensive or defensive roster spot to not have to count on "good bounces on the turf" for a 30 yard kick.

Maybe there is a method to the madness. The coaches are putting extra energy into the defense while neglecting the special teams for some sort of zero sum game. It seems to work. I cant believe they are winning with such pitiful special teams play.

At some point in time though we are going to hit the point of diminshing returns...and we really can't afford that for the next 3 games. BTW...I hate having the bye week the week prior to Cat/Griz

I am going to quit ridin’ the coaches, at least until they loose to another DII school and have their butts handed to them 45-0 on their own field on consecutive weeks. Obviously, they know more than I do. I certainly have my complaints about Baily and Kramer but I cannot argue with a four game BSC winning streak. That ISU game was truly spectacular.

Throughout that whole discussion on this BB about firing the coaches, Helcat72 put it best as far as I am concerned.

Krames has said there will not be a true punter used by us. He believes in the roll out completely.
Personally, I like the roll out as well. But, I think it's evident that Ryan is in there because he doesn't mess up, not because he can kick the ball a mile. The team does need to find someone who can consistently catch the snap (Bolton's and Fisher's issue), kick it high enough to get it over the player's heads at the line (Bolton and Rolovich issue), but yet not kick it so high that it reaches the return guy in the air (like the second punt by Force on Saturday that ended in a big return because coverage wasn't there yet).

I do hope he finds a suitable player quickly. Until then, we'll have to rely on Force to get the job done; he is some athlete.

I still say we have Jefferson do that as well...he has done a lot for us on offense already, maybe he can be of assistance on special teams.

Maybe it's TIME to insert-- Chuck Hoffenbacker NORRIS, to roundhouse punt that sucker out of the stadium!!

that could be our secret strategy at the Cat Griz game. we stroll our 300 lb punter out there onto the field and have him roundhouse kick it out of WAGR stadium. Lets keep it a secret. shhhhhhhhh

I believe the roll punt is an excellent tool and the return far outweighs the risk of a block. Just look at how many consecutive games we've played without the opposing team returning a kick or punt for a touchdown. Granted the two blocks and scores at Sac State should be credited to the special teams. However, think of how many times we pin the opponent inside the 10 and many times inside the 5. A traditional punt is very hard to pin inside the 10 or 5 as you don't know how it's going to bounce when it lands. The roll punt allows the ball to roll about 20 yards and allows an easy pin inside the 10. Also, look at the yards returned--minimal.

I don't think Rolo is punting right now because there isn't a backup QB (without burning a redshirt). When Carpenter comes back, we'll probably see Rolovich back as punter. He just needs to get more height on the ball.

Hell, there's gotta be at least one kid out of 11,000 on campus that played soccer or won a Punt, Pass, and Kick competition as a child....

Maybe they oughta hold an open tryout?

You have good points. However, we are still last in the Big Sky in punting average and last in net yards per punt.
