BIG D

Post by torrybruce » Sun Oct 22, 2006 8:26 pm

I just want to put out there to see what everyone thinks of our D's performance against ISU. It seems like we gave up a lot of yds (403 total) but we always came up with big plays when needed. I definitely would like to see less yds allowed next week, but keep up with the big plays. They made stops when needed and kept ISU from paydirt when it was needed.

WAY TO GO BIG D!!!

I thought our D played really well for three quarters. They really limited Barnett's ability to run and we didn't allow a third down conversion for the first 9 or 10 attempts.

There were a couple of times in the first three quarters where they could have played better. One example that comes to mind is on ISU's touchdown when Tyrone, I think, didn't lay out Thompson. He just gave a shove thinking it was enough to put him out of bounds. This could have been a perfect time to really lay him out (his angle was there to do it). But, the result was a touchdown that could have been prevented on that play.

The fourth quarter, I honestly feel they lost their intensity and relaxed somewhat. I think it was at least 1/2 of their yardage came in this quarter alone. I didn't see any major shifts in defensive sets. So, I just have to believe we took it out of gear and tried to coast; never a good idea in the Big Sky.

Overall, I would grade them at a "B" for the game. Had they played a full game, they would have gotten an "A" IMO.

That's what I was thinking Wiers is that we weren't mixing up our sets in the 4th quarter. We were getting a good push with our 3 down linemen, but we needed to bring a little pressure. Our backers and secondary are that much better when they react then just drop back and wait for things to happen.

The other thing...completely off the D topic but I wanted to rant anyways...I was looking at our overall standings. 1-3 to start a season and now at 5-3...how great is that. It is even more apparent that we really needed that win at CU. That might be the thing that gets us a playoff berth. The loss to Chadron really hurt us and I hate being presumptious, but had we won that game I think we still get a playoff berth even if for some godforsaken reason we lose to the Griz in Nov. Ok off my soapbox now...just got to thinking about that as I was glancing at the standings.

The Cat's must win the conference to make the playoffs. The playoffs for the Cats started after the EWU game. There is no way they would take a team with 3 losses to teams we should have won. Our national ranking is to low and the Big Sky, besides the Griz, gets no respect from back east sports writters to move us up the rankinds.

We have had 4 straight games of less than 100 yards rushing..including the leading rusher at ISU. I thought Leblanc, Henderson, and King simply missed tackes on one of the 4th quarter drives..the other the corner looked liked he got beat. I felt that the defense looked intense most of the game. Will WSU quarterback be as good as ISU? Anyone know?

From what I have seen of him, Pizarro is hit or miss. He has really good games, then not so good ones. He was 24 of 34 for 238 yds, 2 td's 2 int's against the Griz. Shawn Woods has taken the majority of the snaps in every game but the first and the last (2nd game was a wash). I don't know who will start this weekend. Last year he was a 50% passer.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Guitiarez is a pretty darn good qb who with a little help would be tops in the conference. I think he came from Delasale high school in Concord who was the number one team in the nation for like 10 years. He then went to Michigan but lost out to Henne. We won't see many QB's with his talent. Weber State is one of these games that we should win but can give us a scare.
