Montana State's Brad Huse

Brad Huse will face a solid challenge in his first season as head coach of the Montana State Bobcats. Last year's team was perfectly mediocre, .500 in conference play and .500 in non-conference and loses a bunch of contributing seniors. CHN chatted with the first-time D1 head coach about what we should expect this season.

***

Shawn Siegel (CHN): What will the strengths and weaknesses of this year’s team to be?

Brad Huse (BH): We should have good competition at each position, which will create solid depth for us. Early on I expect us to struggle offensively as we lose a high percentage of our scoring from last year.

CHN: How will you deal with loss of those seniors like Ja'Ron Jefferson and Al Beye?

BH: Our seniors provided a high percentage of our offensive production, so we need to find a consistent scoring threat out of his bunch. When you lose the amount of production that we did you have a lot of guys who think they're going to fill those holes. At this time, we're not sure who will provide that scoring punch

CHN: Talk about a player on your team that deserves more credit for being an unheralded contributor?

BH: Ted Morris leads by example and never has a bad day effort-wise. He is mature and is a good leader for this club."

CHN: What should we expect out of the incoming players. Who will make the biggest impact?

BH: We have six newcomers and at this point it is difficult to assess who will make the greatest impact. Each was recruited for a specific skill and hopefully each will provide a positive trait to this team.

CHN: What coaches really helped you reach the level of success you’re at today? Do you still keep in touch with them?

BH: I learned a lot from the coaches I played for and coached with: Kelvin Sampson, Rick Dessing, Mick Durham, and Larry Krystkowiak. All of these college coaches provided me with something that I use in my own coaching style. The person I probably emulate more than any other is my dad.

CHN: Realistically, what should we expect out of your team this year?

BH: A primary objective will be to see that our team plays with the consistent effort required of teams that want to compete at the top of their league. We may struggle a bit early but I expect to make a push as the league season progresses.

CHN: Thanks coach
. Good luck.
