What you think and what the reality is are two different things. It's a case by case basis. Many fcs his, a la jalyx hunt, don't go to the combine because there is more of a downside than upside. Getting drafted/invited to camp is a superv trucker thing is you're not a shoo-in. It isn't always best to go to the combine. You don't have to believe and that's fine but as I stated going to the combine is more about them pricing what you can't do as opposed to what you can do, your margin for error is zero. That spells doom for most guys. The ones that have a perfect day, it helps most guys out does nothing or it hurts them... which is why many guys do not participate.
Jalyx Hunt went to the NFL Combine. First Houston Christian player to ever attend. He was one of the players who most benefited from his results in Indy.

He did go..... his sick was already high when he went though. An old player of mine played with him at hcu. Much like wehr he got invited to the Reese's sr bowl and showed out... the combine didn't raise his draft stock. I know his father james, he played at Ole miss several yrs before some of my high school teammates played at Ole miss.... they knew he was getting started after the sr bowl they just didn't know which team. But I digress..... the combine is a blessing and a curse... if you go so well as a fringe player is great, if you have one hiccup they will go with another person..... most kids perform well at their pro day at the school so many kids won't participate in at the combine.....
He didn’t go, and it helped his draft stock. No, wait, he did go, but it didn’t help his draft stock.

Btw, Wehr didn’t go to the Senior Bowl. He went to the Shrine. Just semantics though.
I can ask the sr Bowls sr bowls... whether it's reeves blue gray or whatever... so yeah semantics...keep jumping on me let's talk about you resting on semantics. It's what it is.....I was wrong about him going to the combine, I'll own that. I take to his dad he want going he ended up going and I forgot... that's on me I'll own that. So doesn't take away from the fact that combine is known for killing dreams as much as making them come true... it's case by case.

My friend, I think you have a hard time with conversational tone over text. Disagreeing, or arguing, or ****** talking, isn’t inherently rude. It’s just how a lot of guys talk. That’s how it always was in the locker room for me, and when a bunch of the guys get together there’s always giving each other crap and disagreements. None of what I’m saying is personal, I just didageee with BBT and I’m giving him a little ******. He’s doing the same thing. So I think you’re just misreading the tone. It’s hard over text, I get it.
Haha. You name yourself Belligerent but you don’t want to “mistaken” as being rude? Come on man. A new poster comes to the board with actual exposure to some of these situations and you regularly chastise him for just sharing his opinion. You even call it sh1t talking. That is why new guys don’t post and many long time posters don’t contribute any more. How about just trying to have a civil conversation instead of being a douche?
Here recently I've had several people try to jump on me and discredit what I have to say. Guess some people have gotten in their feelings because the board likes the shiny new toy. Some of the things I say are hitting real close to home so I see people try to rule me voice invalid..... I'm good with it. I mean this is the same guy that said people shouldn't support a current player that has literally done nothing wrong because he was from out of state and is going to leave for money... oh and he doesn't even know the current player so understand I take everything he says with a grain of salt... which I'm sure he does the same to me.....I will say Mr. BelligerentBobcat it does seem that you find my posts just so that you can try to just disagree with me but it really doesn't matter one way or another....I too have spent many a day in a locker room and there's literally nothing you can say on this board to get under my skin...I wouldn't say you're rude but you darn sure toe the line... you also haven't called names or anything of the like so it's all good

If a player is a lock to get drafted if they don't do combine then why would they do a pro day. Can't the same bad things happen. Still seems like those who are day 2, 3, or UFA look for every chance they can get to be in front of or talking g to teams.
This is different than where we started. I am under the impression that wehr is a day one guy, at least I think he is. Yes you are correct that any opportunity to get in front of teams is huge for most players. That still doesn't charge the fact that done guys on a car by case basis will choose not to participate at the combine.

So everyone understands the player has less notice of what's going to be done at the combine. Prep for the each drill is essential to impressing scouts. Which has been my WHOLE POINT.... if you do a drill and screw it up it can kill you. When you have a pro day the scouts will trek the coaches the apparatuses or the drills they may do so you actually get to prep for then to really shine. Again some guys do all in any situation since kids don't test well amen certain circumstances don't align well. So some players do what they can to manipulate each situation to their favor.
Wehr a Day 1 pick? No way. He’s day 3 or UDFA.

I've heard of players skipping the combine because they were injured, because they were retiring from football, and when they were an absolute lock to go in the first round. I've never heard of a guy in Wehr's position skipping it, even though it is possible to tank your draft stock there, just by being bad at some field day nonsense that really has nothing to do with football. Players bet on themselves.

The first team that skips the combine is going to win five Super Bowls in a row. For the players it's make or break, but for the teams it's actually worse than useless.

Day One means a first round pick. There is no chance Marcus Wehr goes in the 1st round. That’s not criticizing him as a player, that’s just me being realistic.

Hot take: the new draft format is garbage purely because it made the phrase "first day pick" meaningless.

I love the new format, breaking it into smaller chunks makes it a lot more pleasurable to watch if you want to follow the whole thing.

1. I forgot that day 1 is just first rd now that's on me. I think he's 3rd talent imo....I think he's just that good. I bet we'll may be wrong but I hold him in high regard.

2. I just got home from work and was watching first take...Sanders isn't working out at the combine...Shannon reiterated what I said.... it's very common, you don't like throwing to wrs that you don't know, you throw to wrs that will make you look good. He said it was a sharp move(the segment was sharp or not sharp). Yes I know he's a 1st rd lock but many guys don't workout at the combine as he and I stated because it can kill your draft stock. A lot do go and very on themselves, as I stated. My ONLY point is that it may be a blessing in disguise to not go because you can control a lot of the variables when you workout on your home turf.... that's my only point.

Shannon and Stephen A are absolute homers when it comes to Sanders (both Deion and Shadeur). Anything either does can only be good in their eyes, so of course not throwing at the combine would be spun to be a “smart move.”

If I’m picking in the 3 this year, Cam Ward is it. Shadeur’s antics would not jive in a locker room full of veterans.

Dan Patrick Show just highlighted Brendan Hall during one of their breaks. Nice little shout out to Brendan and Montana State. EDIT: Put this here since Brendan announced he was taking part in the specialist combine

I don’t disagree with you on not working out when you’re an established top 10 pick, and especially a QB. I love the draft, and I love players who compete, so I’m always disappointed when players hold themselves out of drills, but I understand why top prospects do it, especially if the schedule for drills isn’t conducive to their best times. With all that said though, I just don’t think it would be beneficial at all for a small school late round pick to try to skip anything. They need as much attention and data as possible.

Pretty interesting on Marcus. I would have thought his showing at the senior bowl would have moved him higher.

While I admittedly never watched him or Bill & Mary this year, I have a hard time believing that Marcus is not as good as or better than the W& M OLman indicated as a 3rd round pick.

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.

I have zero inside info and I'm just as surprised as everyone about the lack of buzz around Marcus, but I'll just say sometimes this can be explained with a problem popping up with the physical. Did you get dinged up at the Shrine game that wasn't obvious in the television version? Was there an injury in his training?

Of the players who played in the 2024 Shrine Bowl, their NFL Draft positions were:

Round 1 Picks - 0
Round 2 Picks - 3
Round 3 Picks - 5
Round 4 Picks - 5
Round 5 Picks - 11
Round 6 Picks - 17
Round 7 Picks - 16
UDFA Signing - 83

Even if Wehr improved his draft stock it was probably a move up from the UDFA category into the Round 5 - 7 range where most of the Shrine Bowl players get picked. The Shrine Bowl is definitely a few steps below the Senior Bowl in terms of where those players are likely going to be drafted.

Bobcat athletics is a business to the coaches, school leadership, and players. It's time the fans treat Bobcat athletics as a business too.
