Without research I’d assume we had a better line this year to run behind.

Exactly, three 1000 yard rushers. Of course, more games played but still remarkable.Common Cat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:23 pmWithout research I’d assume we had a better line this year to run behind.

If you had done research, you would find that’s true. 6.5 ypc in 2024 to 5.5 in 2018. However, you’d also see that Ifanse had the benefit of Troy Andersen getting a ton of attention in the run game, which benefited Ifanse more than Mellott, who also got attention, did for Jones. Andersen 16 carries per game in 2018. Mellott <8 this year. Those things balance each other out a bit.Common Cat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:23 pmWithout research I’d assume we had a better line this year to run behind.

With a comparable line in 2021, Ifanse averaged 5.8 ypc and had 10 TDs.

Incorporating Jones more into the passing game could be a game-changer for the Cats' offense. He showed some impressive flashes of greatness as a receiver, which makes it surprising that they didn’t have more designed plays to utilize his talent.

Not to mention all the carries Humphry took while Ifanse was essentially the featured back. All in all, 2024 was a better team which benefitted Jones but weighing everything, I think Jones had a slightly better freshman year (but then again, it was his redshirt freshman year).TomCat88 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:42 pmIf you had done research, you would find that’s true. 6.5 ypc in 2024 to 5.5 in 2018. Re: 2024 Jones vs 2018 Ifanse frosh season
My big takeaway is that Ifanse was an amazingly good running back and Jones had a comparable season. Obviously, there are things that feed into all that, but the bottom line is that they're comparable. RBs get beat up. Ifanse, Davis, Humphrey and Jones all missed their share of games and played hurt. As did, Mellott and Chambers. As did, White and Elliott.doebrmnn wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 11:12 amNot to mention all the carries Humphry took while Ifanse was essentially the featured back.
