Re: Nate Thornton commits
I feel like this is the bright side of the transfer portal for high level FCS teams. My guess is under the old system we don't have a chance at this kid. Now we need to take advantage of his young healthy years-hopefully at least 2 after a redshirt (because o-line recruits almost always redshirt) and watch him head off to the Big 10 or wherever. I'm glad our coaches are nimble enough to figure this whole thing out.

Yep, Vigen said that in one of the interviews - saying that one glimmer of a positive out of the whole NIL deal is that we can now land higher caliber athletes out of HS.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 8:58 pmI feel like this is the bright side of the transfer portal for high level FCS teams. Nate might be the #1 recruit at this moment. He's a Conner Moore level talent meaning he could definitely push for starter reps as a redshirt frosh. An absolute animal in the trenches and a great looking athlete to boot.

What tickles me the most is that the week before he was at Gold Rush, he had an official visit in UM.
Keep on stacking OL talent and it makes everything else easier.

It’s fun when we get them, but sucks when we lose them. Hopefully Connor Moore sticks around past this season, but I’m not holding my breath.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 9:36 pmWhat tickles me the most is that the week before he was at Gold Rush, he had an official visit in UM.

Re: Nate Thornton commits
That would sting a little bit if it does happen. I get that it’s always a strong possibility. We’re clearly deep on the OL, but we are still going to lose 4 seniors on the OL next year as it is, sure would be nice for all the underclassmen to come back next year.wbtfg wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 8:55 amIt’s fun when we get them, but sucks when we lose them. ...and this is what it will take to beat the Dakota's in the future. The Cats have to hold on to these recruits as long as they can and develop them. There needs to be some more donations to the NIL collective too, so the Cats can keep these guys.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 9:36 pmWhat tickles me the most is that the week before he was at Gold Rush, he had an official visit in UM.

Eh. Getting great talent and finding a way to keep it is a way better problem than not having good enough talent to move up.wbtfg wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 8:55 amIt’s fun when we get them, but sucks when we lose them. Just came here to say that. Even though we're FCS we're in a better financial state and have higher alumni interest contributing to our collective than a lot of FBS programs.catatac wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 9:05 pmYep, Vigen said that in one of the interviews - saying that one glimmer of a positive out of the whole NIL deal is that we can now land higher caliber athletes out of HS.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 8:58 pmI feel like this is the bright side of the transfer portal for high level FCS teams. I'm a monthly contributor to the football and basketball NILs. Do you know how much the Collective is making every month/year? I'm just curious. I have never seen a number and how they compare to any other schools.Cledus wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 9:59 amJust came here to say that. Absolutely true! Unfortunately though, I don't think we're at the same level as NDSU and SDSU for whatever reason and until that evens out (if it ever does), I think they'll always have an advantage, unfortunately.Cledus wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 9:59 amJust came here to say that. I watch is tape from last year and would interested to know where the right tackle #54 went. Did a couple of quick searches and he had an offer from Idaho but doesn’t look like he signed with them. That high school had one helluva oline last year!VimSince03 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 9:14 pmNate might be the #1 recruit at this moment. Re: Nate Thornton commits
I don't know. I was just reasoning through the issue based on what I've seen, and with the benefit of hindsight. Things like MSU becoming a completely different institution under Cruzado that seems to do everything right. Not that it's a race, but we had our collective up and running pretty quickly compared to um and other schools. When I look at schools like New Mexico State, Akron, et al. it just seems like MSU is positioned nicely to get those recruits are who aren't quite P5 but good enough to raise the level of competition in the FCS.AFCAT wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 11:41 amI'm a monthly contributor to the football and basketball NILs. It's my belief with the collective and MSU's climbing to the elite level of FCS teams, we now keep recruits like Grady Robison instead of losing them at the last minute to dogsh*t FBS teams. Yes, I know he ended up being a bust but you get the idea.
