Sain has played/practiced at center before.
When Sain was practicing at center, posters were thinking that the coaches were looking to replace Perkins due to his lack of size, as I recall. I think it was when Reed was an up and coming star and Wehr(?) was the other guard. My memory isn’t crystal clear on this.
Sain was, most likely, going to be the starting center in the 2021 season but he was injured during Fall Camp and Justice stepped up and Wally Pipped Sain and took the job.
From a 2022 news article.
“Cole Sain was slated to be MSU’s starting center after the 2021 spring game, but he suffered an injury in fall camp and never returned to full strength. When he was able to play, the Riverside (California) Community College transfer saw game action at guard on several occasions. The 6-foot-4, 273-pound redshirt junior remains in the mix for one of the starting guard jobs, and he’s currently listed as the backup center.”

After JJ McCarthy went from out six weeks to out for the season, I’m a little leery about Perkins situation.

Did anyone hear ayn more on Perkins? Not looking for any inside info here because I know injuries sometimes need to be kept on the down low. just wondering if there was any public statement after his evaluation that I missed.
Nope. No news is probably good news. I’m told he was on crutches (unsurprisingly) at the President’s dinner.

After seeing the picture of Perkins in that walking boot and crutches, I bet he is out for a few weeks, at least.

Yep, ya never know but as of now I'm optimistic we get him back fairly soon. As you say, no news is good news, Vigen said "It isn't season ending or anything", and if that had changed I assume he would announce it. UNM will be a much bigger challenge now, crazy the betting line is Cats by 9 points.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

I’m just gonna say it so it doesn’t happen. Speak it out of existence. Even if it doesn’t exist yet and I haven’t seen anybody mention it. Here's to hoping we have a clean, minimal, hardly nada false starts game. Much different from last year game 1. I have heart palpitations just thinking about it.
