Um isn't that against the rules? I thought other teams boosters couldn't contact another team's players?

Texas plays Big 12 championship tomorrow as well. Could be waiting to announce Choate.catgrad05 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 10:57 pmGoing to depend on coaching retention. If we fail to win tomorrow expect a lot of turnover, coordinators and players. The further we get in the playoffs the less we lose.
As a follow-up and o know it’s the wrong thread but O really don’t like that Boise is waiting until after tomorrow to announce their coach. I’m hoping Choate gets the job but it might be Vigen………..

They find ways around it, such as contact through a third party.
And rules aren't always followed. Plenty of examples of that over the last 40 years of college football.

Re: How many?
Well sure it happens some but we are making it sound like the top 3-5 kids on every team are being approached. Pretty sure someone would report that.91catAlum wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 4:54 amYa sure.technoCat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 12:15 amUm isn't that against the rules? I would like to see the NIL change. All the NIL money would go in huge pot. This money would then be shared based on FBS, FCS, Div II, etc. it could even be broken down by position or number of plays on the field. If changes aren't made then the teams with the most NIL money will just continue to buy better players. The portal needs to go back to sitting out a season to change teams.

Here's some good background on the NIL, I came across it the other day and thought it was interesting.technoCat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 9:54 amWell sure it happens some but we are making it sound like the top 3-5 kids on every team are being approached. Re: How many?
Because the teams with the most money didn’t pay for players before? C’mon now, let’s not be naive. The NIL money is fine, there needs to be restrictions on the transfer portal. That’s my take.St George wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 10:08 amI would like to see the NIL change. All the NIL money would go in huge pot. Unless the NCAA makes some kind of rule restricting this wide open transferring, college sports is on the way to being ruined.

I would fault them. But, that’s only because I’m a petty dick who thinks that no good player should EVER leave MSU, under any circumstances.Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 12:09 amA significant number of Jr’s are Covid Jrs and most likely have their degrees. Re: How many?
Look no further than last year's kicker for MSU. Within about 3 days, he hit the portal, had an offer from UCLA, and committed to them.technoCat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 9:54 amWell sure it happens some but we are making it sound like the top 3-5 kids on every team are being approached. If the kicker at MSU is being approached I'm about 99% sure that the top 3-5 other players are as well.

Re: How many?
Cats could lose their whole starting d line to "graduation" and portal. Probably lose an o lineman or two. Toss in an RB or two (but non too concerning). Things could get ugly quick.Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 12:09 amA significant number of Jr’s are Covid Jrs and most likely have their degrees. Re: How many?
Vigen has got to really pick up his internal recruiting pitch and convince guys their NFL chances are better staying than leaving. Looking at what happened to Ifanse and Glessner this year, that's a case you can make. Our guys are good but none of them are so good that they are going to be some massive $ transfer. Take a guy like Seabass-- if he stays here he will continue to star, and he is already on the NFL radar. If he transfers to a Power 5 school, maybe he gets lost in a depth shuffle or gets in the wrong system and hurts his stock. For guys with Pro Futures, I think the portal is overrated.

The players aren’t stupid. They transfer because they are bored here or want more playing time 99% of the time. Hardly any think they will go pro. They can do math.

Re: How many?
The same people that think there’s going to be a mass exodus are the same ones that think recruits are going to flip.
