I like originality and not doing what everyone else is doing, hello Sweet Caroline and Enter Sandman. However, I do like that Timmy Trumpet song they play before kickoffs.
Isn't this the one before kickoffs?

If they change these I'm giving up my season tickets. Joking

I do have a pavlovian response to them for sure.

I really haven't had an issue with music or videos this season. Think the stadium crew is doing a fantastic job.

What I haven't enjoyed, however, us that awful "school" song they keep trying to shove down our throats as the "new tradition." What is it called - Fair Montana State or something? Ugh...talk about kill the excitement in the stadium. Nobody knows the song or the words. Just brings the energy down in my opinion...

I agree, it slows thing down, but I am willing to give it time to grow. The best traditions are ones that aren’t forced. Mony Mony just grew on its own and not from some idea put out there from the marketing staff. I believe the Rodeo team ride out was actually an idea put out by fans after seeing a hype video from MSU that had the horses riding on the field.

Gold Rush is a good marketing staff idea though.

Speaking of Mony Mony, how did that start? Was it just a song in the rotation during games in the 80s and students realized while they were at the game that they could insert ESG GCG in the breaks? It seems crazy that we turned a random pop song into our rivalry song. We need a sequel to Miracle in Missoula documenting that history, from it's inception and growth, to it's decline and it's surging comeback.

Also, it's on one of the classic rock station in Denver quite often and I always "sign along" while I'm driving. Really brightens up my commute! \:D/

Well, I remember when Mony Mony had alternate lyrics, “Get L@#$, Get F#@$*(, before ESG, GCG. I’m guessing the lyrics morphed over time. I doubt there was anyone sitting down and saying, “Let’s do this.” That’s the cool thing about the song, it just came into being and is now a tradition. There wasn’t some marketing group coming up with an idea to make it a tradition. The fans made it a tradition. Although, I highly doubt a marketing group would come up with those lyrics anyway.

It's not the new run out song. I'm fine with that. There were a couple new songs that play for the first time. Sorry, but they were awful. If your going to play some new music, play some damn Red Dirt County. Cody Jinks, Turnpike Troubadours, Whiskey Myers, just to names a few. We're the State Of Montana Ag School. We have our rodeo team lead our football team out. Don't play some new bubble gum crap, that sounds like Baby Shark.

Here is one that could be worked into the game. Maybe even runout.

Do you (or does anyone) know how Mony Mony got started?

I believe the term ESG was around before it was placed into Mony Mony. I first recall hearing it less than 10 years ago in Mony Mony. I think it is a relatively new thing.

It seemed to really go to a whole new level at the end of the 2019 Cat/gris beat-down game. The entire stadium just erupted.

Definitely, ESG has been around at least since the 70s. Way before the Billy Idol version of Mony Mony. I don’t know when it first started being placed with Mony Mony

Incorrect. I was a freshman at MSU in 2002, and ESG, GCG was definitely going strong well before that.

I know for sure that we were singing it at a wedding in Park city Montana in 1992. (stating the obvious: eat ****** grizzlies, go cats go to Mony mony)

In 2018 I played mony mony at AL and Vicks in missoula on Cat gris eve. The whole bar sang the ESG GCG version. My brother (gris) hated it. Al and Vicks is definitely my favorite bar in that town

I remember singing it in the late 90's in the stands but it wasn't like the whole stadium did. Only some of us.

I know the phrase was around, just seemed like it recently took off with Mony Mony. But from the sounds of other posters it has been around longer than I thought. Most recently it really has gained popularity.

Yeah, it's been connected to the song since the 80s or 90s. It felt like it receded after the early 2000s (did they stop playing the song in the stadium during the Ash years?) but made a huge comeback. It used to be a student section thing with some other pockets around the stadium. Now we have 20,007 people screaming it during Cat/griz!
