Are the stars aligned at MSU?
I’d say so. All that’s needed now is the hard part. Wins. But I’d expect nothing less considering the coaches (Kramer, Huse/Sprinkle and Binford) we have in place and the players they have to work with. Add to that the probability that there are many, many boosters with money they’ve been spending on other things while our sports programs see-sawed up-and-down the standings and a nicely timed capital campaign, and things could really begin to look up around here.
Considering all that has gone on (coaches behaving badly/money mismanaged) in our athletic departments over the last two decades, I don’t see how it could be set up any better.

I agree-and certainly hope so. Considering what Kramer alone has done to turn things around it is pretty remarkable. I am a life-long Cat fan, but can definitely understand why many of the best in-state recruits have gone to UM in recent years. Their facilities alone are second to none in I-AA football. Kramer has had the deck stacked against him and I really hope things are turning for the better. Updated facilities, longer contracts, better coaching and management--we are going in the right direction but their is much to still be done.

I think this season is a very crucial season for all of Athletics, in particular football. If, and I say if, Kramer puts together another chanpionship season and gets into the playoffs then the stars will be mostly in line. I also think this is a crucial season for Binford, after last years dismall season, she will need a wining season. Boosters will cut Huse some slack as it is his first year.
If, all of the above come together then the stars will be aligned. The capital campaign will flourish, improvements will be completed to the stadium, sell out crowds, happy boosters and Katie bar the door for Bobcat Athletics.

I'm not sure if Binford and the women need a winning season yet. Last year was essentially a tear down year and the first steps toward rebuilding. This team will improve, no question, but I'm not sure if they'll get up into the 16-18 win range. It would be great, don't get me wrong.
I also think that this is the year for Bobcat football to take that next step forward. First off, the 6-0 home record from last year is great, but we need to do it again. And more importantly, that 1-4 road record needs to go up by 2 wins for the Bobcats to be a playoff team. 3 wins away from the friendly confines of Bobcat Stadium, coupled with 5 or most likely 6 wins at home, will put the Bobcats into the playoffs.
The men's basketball team is also in very good shape. The group of players present is a very good one, and Brad Huse and Danny Sprinkle will bring new excitement into the Fieldhouse next winter. I don't think we'll see a let down.
Anyway, with the positive outlook in these three sports, plus the consistent excellence of all of the others, MSU athletics is in good shape. The stars may be aligned, after all.

Your right; dismal is not the right word. How about pathetic, or black, bleak, daunting, dejecting, depressive, discouraging, disheartening, dismal, dispiriting, distressing, dreary, funereal, gloomy, heartbreaking, hopeless, joyless, melancholic, melancholy, mournful, oppressive, sad, saddening, somber, upsetting!!!!!!!!!crazycat wrote:I don't think Binford had a dismal season. I'm not blamming Binford but who expected the team to be that bad?????????

Joyless seems to be a key word here. Will this team every truly have fun playing?gtapp wrote:Your right; dismal is not the right word. I don't think anyone, fans, players, or coaches, expected the season to go like they did. But then again, they played a lot of close games that could have bounced the other way if things would have gone right. The amazing thing about this team is that all of the girls have positive attitudes about the future and I think they expect to improve and have more fun. I certainly think the morale was better under this team than it was two years ago under Potera-Haskins.
GO CATS!

Did any of you go to a game? They reminded me of the 0-11 2000 football team. After the Humboldt game I didn't expect them to get a win, but as the season wore (try to describe that season any other way, I dare ya...Bobcat4Ever wrote:Joyless seems to be a key word here. I think the lady cats have some really good players. I was impressed with what I saw. They just need experience and a little more depth. IMO they'll be in the upper half of the BSC next year.gtapp wrote:Your right; dismal is not the right word. Anyone who has followed MSU/WBB can realize that Binford is the revival of the program. She took over a program that was in such a shambles it's embarrassing to MSU athletics.gtapp wrote:Your right; dismal is not the right word. Your personal rants serve no purpose to the advancement of the program. The drival you sometimes spew shows your absolute lack of knowledge of Bobcat Athletics, or you just like to bitch.
Example:

I don't know who is bitching? I didn't expect much from them this year and I think Binford will do well given enough time. My point (which I thought was clear) is that it was an "awful season, just as the 0-11 season for the FB team was. Doesn't mean it won't get better but lets call them what they are and not sugar coat the obvious!
