First Weekend Thoughts
Big Sky Conference
TEAM CONF W-L TOTAL W-L
Montana 2-0 12-2
Sacramento State 2-0 11-5
Northern Arizona 2-0 10-6
Montana State 2-0 9-7
Idaho State 0-2 7-6
Portland State 0-2 7-8
Weber State 0-2 6-9
Eastern Wash. 0-2 5-10
I'm not surprised that all the Home teams swept. I knew you guys would pick it up for conference play. I must admit when I heard that Jason Harris was ineligible, I was a little worried

I was a little surprised that Portland State didn't play closer on their trip. I didn't think NAU had much this year, but I guess they aren't as bad as I thought. Let's see if the trend keeps up next week. For me, it will be interesting to see if Sacramento State and Northern Arizona play well at Weber State and Idaho State this coming weekend. And of course that other little game here next Saturday.
GO CATS!
It's always a good day to be a Bobcat fan!

School is out, no kids are there for the game.El_Gato wrote:Most shocking stat to me over the weekend were the 825 folks who took in NAU's home conference opener.
Flagstaff has nothing else around it and it's population is only 61,000. It's actually in snow country (elevation of almost 7,000). Most people with extra money would have been skiing all day and not wanting to go to a basketball game at night.
Not a big surprise to me.

Flagstaff sounds a lot like Bozeman...with more people. I don't know if you can blame snow and lack of students as both Missoula and Bozeman don't have students and we had some good snow this weekend. Both MSU games had over 3500 and I think the UM attendance on Saturday was something like 5500 if I remember correctly. I would lean more towards a lack of interest in the program than anything else.BobcatLionFan wrote:School is out, no kids are there for the game.El_Gato wrote:Most shocking stat to me over the weekend were the 825 folks who took in NAU's home conference opener.

Maybe. It was a Thursday, but then Friday it only balloned to 1230 Fans.
I still wouldn't compare Bozeman and Flagstaff. You have to remember, a lot of the Arizona folk are fans of ASU and UA (Pac-10 and UA in the top 20 nation wide).
Bozeman has no other BIG school competition, just an equal in UM. Flagstaff and NAU do.

Exactly. I remember a few years back when the Cats played down at NAU for the tourney. Dean Alexander traveled with the team and he said when they went to Perkins (or similar establishment) to eat, the greeter/waiter/waitress asked them who they were. Dean told them they were a college basketball team, and the person said "who are you playing here?!" Or something to that effect. Anyway, the gist of that story is that the people down there don't get out and support NAU sports worth a crap. Hell, they don't even know they have a team...BobcatLionFan wrote:Maybe. Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.
