Did Young just elevate himself to the number 1 pick (and trade down, in the case of Houston)? He was amazing. He'd be foolish to not go pro this very second -- he will never command a higher price than he can right now, and there is really no reason for him to stick around (he can get a degree during summer school if he needs that touchy feely degree to go along with his millions of dollars).
MVP of that game ==> TEXAS OL. Young didn't even get touched that game. Put him on a bad NFL team with a bad OL and he will be average at best in my opinion.
Isn't that true with any QB, though? Look at Alex Smith (probably will eventually be a good QB) with the 49ers. He looked awful this year, because he was running for his life. At least Young has the ability to compensate for a less than stellar offensive line with his legs.

And I do disagree ... I think he is truly something special, and he will only get better. He will be a franchise changing player in the NFL. (Now we have to wait for 4 years to see who was more correct in their NFL talent scouting abilities  ).
He is something special with a line like that right now. But he will be exposed passing when he has to rush/throw on run in the NFL. He will be a Daunte Cullpepper w/o the the MOSS combination in my opinion. Mobile, but not accurate and the good athletes in the NFL will get to him.

One thing I will give him over Vick or Cullpepper though is that he is pretty patient in the backfield (which you can do with that line) and doesn't look to burst and run out on each busted play. He follows his line. If he can get a system like that in the NFL he will be okay I think. He needs major fine tuning on his passing though for sure.

It will definately be interesting watching him though and how he does in the NFL. I could 'maybe' see him being a little like Mcnabb I guess and he turned out pretty good. I think the guy to watch in the next few years is that Carpenter kid from Arizona State (freshman this year). I have watched him play a few times this year too and wow, he is really good for a Freshman (22 TD 2 INT's and only started like 6 games). Oh and that Carpenter kid from MSU too ;)

He didn't seem to be able to tell what was going on around the field, even though we could see it. In his defense, though, I think the press boxes in the Rose Bowl are about two zip codes away from the field, so that could explain a lot of the confusion they were having.

And with that, I vow to never use Keith's name in the same sentence as the blathering former MNF commentator ever again.
I like it when commentators are very unbiased towards one team or the other. Keith Jackson was obviously rooting for USC in that game, and it showed in all of the controversial calls. Every time, he wanted the call to go USC's way. However, I was impressed with Fouts' parity. He wasn't very good on MNF, but he has done a good job with college football.

He also has dropped off in the past few years, i.e. he is not as sharp and on top of the plays as in years past. Oh well, his voice is still good, and that is more than Dick Clark can claim (poor guy).

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

I love to hear Keith call games, but he was so biased last night I couldn't believe it. And speaking of him not being quite as sharp, did you notice he questioned why the clock wasn't running on the two point conversion by Texas? He is slipping a little, but I love to hear the drama he brings to each game.

I was thinking the same thing about Keith Jackson-he's one of the, if not the, best there is, but I thinking he's slipping a bit.

Some broadcasters know when it's time to go or not. The color man for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Myron Cope, who just may have one of the most distinct voices in sports, retired after a friend pointed out he was slipping a little bit. Maybe Keith Jackson should consider retirement. He's one of the great ones, no question. And I'm not saying that just because a broadcaster gets old, he starts to slip. Vin Scully is in his mid-70s and has not lost one beat when broadcasting baseball games. Minnesota Twins broadcaster Herb Carneal is 81 and is still sharp. But everybody reaches a logical end to a career. Maybe Keith is at that point where he should only have to worry about his golf game.

Didn't Keith retire to some extent? He used to do all the Pac-10 games that were televised and now doesn't he only cover the Rose Bowl and a few big games per yer?

My favorite part was at the end of the 3rd quarter, when he was trying to figure out which team called timeout...Another good one was when Bush returned a kickoff, and made a B-line out of bounds at about the 20-25. Jackson said something like, "Bush was only one step away from making a touchdown!" Cracked me up.

Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

Oh yes, listening to him try to determine who called time out at the end of the third was hilarious. I can't believe he didn't know that the quarter was over.

More Keith Jackson Quotes from last night:
8:37 -- Keith Jackson on Vince Young: "As an old defensive coach once said, 'He ain't got no handles,' but he led the country in passing this year."

(Um, does anyone on this plane speak jive? What just happened there?)
ROFL!
8:45 -- Top-four names, words and phrases that sound 10 times more entertaining when Keith Jackson says them: (1) LenDale White; (2) Tostitos; (3) the speedster; (4) Frostee Rucker.
Again, ROFL!
11:40 -- Since I firmly believe Marv Albert should do every big NBA game, Pat Summerall every big NFL game and Keith Jackson every big college football game, no matter how old they are, and only because it feels like a bigger game when any of them is involved, I feel totally comfortable saying this: Listening to Jackson is like driving with my mother at night. In other words, maybe he can't really see anymore, and he might drive over a few curbs, and maybe he'll even send a pedestrian diving behind a parking meter ... but it's always exciting, and you always get home safely in the end.
Another one! This guy is great!
12:21 -- Young runs for the 2-point conversion. I now have him ranked above every NFL QB except for Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer. Good golly. We also had this exchange right after the conversion:

-- Jackson: "Only 19 seconds to play ... clock didn't move on that play."
-- Fouts: "That's an extra point, it's probably not going to ... "
And the best one of them all!! Hehehehe!

Keith Jackson's comments were off a bit, like saying that White would have scored if he hadn't tripped on one play. It was obvious that he was tackled. It wasn't hard to tell that he favored USC. I'll never forget his comment about Barry Sanders not being able to play with the "big boys." It was worth a few laughs at the time.
