Women's Basketball plays tonight at San Diego
I thought I'd mention this game because the Bobcat ladies have a chance to win this one. San Diego is 3-7 but hasn't won at home. The women have progressively been playing better and this might just be the one where they pick up their first win. Good luck ladies.
GO CATS!

We've had two common opponents.
MSU lost to Boise State 66-52.
USD lost to Boise State 68-51.
Pretty much a standoff.
MSU lost to CS Fullerton 85-84.
USD beat CS Fullerton 64-46.
We'll need to pick it up to be in the game. But we can do that. I think that playing on the road has perhaps relaxed the team and they are just letting loose and playing some hoops.
I envy them the sun and beauty of the USD campus, while we are here in slushville.

Unfortunately, the poor girls had to stomach another close loss, this one by the score of 53-48. Neither team could hit the broadside of a barn, honestly. But there were some very solid performances from some of the girls. Scotta Morton hit a lot of threes and Katy Proetti seemed to have a very good night. Heringer seemed to do everything well. Alyssa Nelson did a good job as usual. They're getting closer...but not quite there yet.

Yeah, they need to keep their heads up and just keep learning/improving as a team. There were a lot of new players on this team so it is going to take a while for them to mesh with each other. Keep fighting lady Cats and the victories will come!bozbobcat wrote:Unfortunately, the poor girls had to stomach another close loss, this one by the score of 53-48. I keep wondering why we have so much trouble scoring points, especially when we do get open. I keep hearing the play-by-play man say "(name) is wide open for 3!" and it misses or "(name) is open under the basket!" and the layup misses. We have some very prolific scorers -- Katie Proietti had over 1900 points in high school, Jenny Heringer had over 1200 in 3 years, and I am sure that there are more. The open shots are far harder to come by in D-1 ball, but open shots are pretty much the same ball and the same basket. Is everyone just pressing too hard? Can they ever relax and just let it fly? It looks like Scotta has found the magic, so maybe it will rub off. Alyssa has been so very efficient on points per shot and even she had a 1-for-whatever night (box score is missing from the web site). I'm not criticizing, just observing and wondering what is keeping the ball out of the hole? Any ideas out there?

My guess is that they are pressing too hard/excited when they are getting open looks. I agree, they just need to calm down and shot the ball like they know they can. Often times a shooter thinks they have less time than they really have to get the shot off (especially from up top) so they rush the shot. They need to set their feet and go up with the shot just like they do in practice. If they get blocked they get blocked, but you have to do that to remain consistent.Bobcat4Ever wrote:I keep wondering why we have so much trouble scoring points, especially when we do get open.
