Joy and Sorrow
The Seattle paper has an article today about the pain Stanford suffered losing to UC Davis "a team currently moving from D II to 1AA and only 37 scholarships". I had lunch with some friends and we were discussing our particular schools "best and worst". For me the "best" was the 1976 Bobcat win over Akron for the DII Championship and every win over missoula. "Worst" is the last second field goal in a game played toward the end of the last decade in the previous century, and the loss to Central Washington about 3 years ago. The CWU loss was especially hard since it gives the Seattle locals some perspective on the talent level and I took a lot of grief, plus my daughter was going there at the time and dating a football player.

The 97 Cat/Griz game was the worst for me and the 98 Cat Griz is up there as well. The two playoff wins in 84 were the best. As for a season as a whole the 2002 was the biggest roller coaster ever. Loosing to Central Washington then coming back and beating Portland the week before the Cat Griz game, heading to Specs seeing the Griz lose and opening the door for us to win the conference by finishing it off by dominating the Griz (even if we only won 10-7, we dominated that game). Then down again at McNees who we could have and should have beaten but having a patch work O-line that just couldn't quit get it done.
More down times in my lifetime for sure but love how it seems to be changing.

The devil made me do it the first time... the second time I done it on my own.

For the rest of my life, I will not be able to think about Bobcat football without picturing Joe Roberts returning that pick for a score against Rhode Island in 84, after barely avoiding a touchdown-saving hit by Tex Sikora. RI was about to put the final nail in our championship coffin and the next thing you know, we're sky high and headed to Charleston!
That entire season was unbelievable but the Rhode Island game in particular was one of the most exciting I've ever witnessed.

I have to agree with Ponycat by saying that the 97 Cat-Griz game was the worst that I remember. My 3 favorites were the 2002 Cat-Griz game that we dominated and won 10-7. The next 2 came in 2003. The first was that classic comeback against NAU. The next was the 2003 Cat-Griz game where Corey Smith raced the opening kickoff for a touchdown and at the end, the south goalpost came down.
GO CATS!
It's always a good day to be a Bobcat fan!

My name is Steve, if you'd like to know.

The 97 game really was special. I was with a friend who had played for MSU, and when State went ahead, he went berserk, until he saw the time left on the clock and told me, "The 'Cats are going to lose." And of course he was right. The way in which State fans' joy turned to disbelief and then horror was something worthy of a Greek tragedy. Even though my primary loyalty is with the Griz, even I could appreciate how that must have hurt. That game, and the 1995 Griz-Boise State game, were very special, and always leave me with a feeling of awe.

El Gato..... I agree! I was in the north endzone seating and saw the whole thing! It was incredible!El_Gato wrote:For the rest of my life, I will not be able to think about Bobcat football without picturing Joe Roberts returning that pick for a score against Rhode Island in 84, after barely avoiding a touchdown-saving hit by Tex Sikora.
