Carroll's Emmert Lauded
http://www.footballfoundation.com/news.php?id=738
Tyler Emmert
Quarterback, Carroll College (Mont.)
Recipient of the E. Douglas Kenna National Scholar-Athlete Award
Few players in college football history have reached the heights that Carroll College’s Tyler Emmert has reached. In the classroom, he is one of Carroll’s brightest, and on the field, he has led the Fighting Saints to three consecutive NAIA National Championships.
A three-time NAIA Academic All-America selection, Emmert received the NAIA A.O. Duer Award as the nation’s top student-athlete in 2004. Majoring in Civil Engineering, he is a member of the National Honor Society and the American Society of Civil Engineering. A four-time Academic All-Conference pick, Emmert has earned Dean’s List recognition eight times.
On the field, Emmert is a two-time NAIA First Team All-America selection and was named 2003 NAIA National Player of the Year. In 2002, he earned an NAIA All-America Honorable Mention. A three-time First Team All-Conference pick and two-time Conference Most Valuable Offensive Player, Emmert has passed for over 11,000 yards and is responsible for more than 100 touchdowns. A two-year team captain, his teams have only suffered three losses since 2002.
An elementary school mentor, Emmert speaks at Hometown Helena, a weekly gathering of local business men. He is a member of Big Brothers & Big Sisters and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

GF Griz,
Thanks for pointing out Tyler's off the field accomplishments. I was aware of his FB skills but not the others. This is the kind of stuff I love to point out to my children.
The fact is sports can take you a long way in life. But, being a good student and a good human being will take you further.

Exactly. The character of the players on the teams in the Treasure State is amazing. It's a bonus that Carroll's success gives Montanans, and fans beyond, even more of a chance to see that character in a player like Emmert. Go Saints; Go 'Cats; GO GRIZ!barechestcat wrote:GF Griz,

I agree. The more publicity football in Montana receives (UM's title runs in the last decade, the re-emerging program at MSU and Lulay chasing records, along with everything Carrol has done in the past few years) can do nothing but help every school in Montana. This national recognition opens the doors to recruits, boosters, and other people who gain interest in the state and its fine programs.GFGriz wrote:Exactly. I agree. Great recognition for those who pay attention that we can develop and compete at high levels in good 'ol Montana.grizband wrote:I agree. I don't think so. The story is that he had some concussions at Helena Capital High that made UM hesitate. Emmert's brother had been a Saint QB, however, and I hear he preferred to stay in Helena for the quality education he could get at Carroll and for proximity to family. There's word Glenn commented that not getting Emmert for the Griz was a mistake on his part. Given what Emmert's accomplished at Carroll, I doubt he regrets not playing at one of the bigger schools. Still, watching him probably makes a lot of UM and MSU folks think "what if", especially in Missoula this year.gtapp wrote:Did Emmert have any offers out of HS other than Carroll?

Sure makes me say "what if," although last year Ochs was fine, and Cole is starting to look good, so I think we should be okay.GFGriz wrote:I don't think so. I think the question of "what if" with Emmert is diffused here a little bit because for the last 4 years, we've had Lulay. Hats of to Tyler Emmert for this award. He is the best example of the ideal Montana college student, not just an excellent athlete. This kind of thing makes every Montana school look good and as Montanans, we should be proud of any sort of accomplishment like this that comes out of one of our fine universities.
GO CATS!
It's always a good day to be a Bobcat fan!

My name is Steve, if you'd like to know.

It is amazing that Carroll has been so consistantly good! I don't know if they have any scholarships to give but I would expect that most (if not all) of their players are Montana kids. When you think about the schools they compete with at the national level and the advantage a school from a large city would have it is even more amazing.
