The Sky is Falling

The weekend was not good for the Bobcats or the Griz. However I do not think the sky is falling on either team. The Griz mabe a little suspect, but the Bobcats have some positives that came from the PSU loss.

1) The WR's have really stepped up. Gatewood had a good game, Murray and Guin payed very well. The passing game is very strong and will score a lot of points.

2) Evin Groves, what can you say. He will be a force to contend with the rest of the season. The ground game is back. Groves will keep us on the field and score some points.

3) The O line looks pretty solid. They will give Lulay the time he needs. Lulay will score some points.

4) Hastings did a great job, he will continue to put some points on the Board.

5) We have a bye week. Good time to heal up and shore up the defense.

6) Two home games in a row against weak opponents. Time to fine tue for the EWU game.

7) Kramer will make adjustments on the D and they will look much improved.

Special teams will be difficult to correct. They will be supect all season.

9)The sky is not falling, we should have won at PSU, one costly mistake costs the Cats the W.

Lets see how the Griz look this weekend against a very strong Cal Poly team and how the Cats look after making some adjustments on D for their next two home games. The sky may fall on one team or the other, but I do not believe it will be the Cats!

Hope to go to the QB lunch today. If I do I will let you know what the smooth talker has to say.

Best post I have read about Saturday's game. I came away with the same feeling. We very easily could have won that game. I'll agree that the defense has me a little worried, but I am confident that with getting Kolone and Lowe back we will see an improvement during the next two home games. Will it be enough? Stay tuned!!

I'm not doubting this, I just want to know what makes you so confident that this will happen. And what changes/adjustments could be made to show improvement?

In september, I predicted us losing to PSU and Eastern on the road and hoping that there would be some upsets to let us tie for 1st. I just don't see EWU losing another game. The hardest part of their schedule is done except for the MSU game. That will be a must win for us, assuming we can take care of business at home.

Teton Cat, read Canyon Cats post pretty well summed up what Kramer said in Billings today in regards to the defense. Pretty hard to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. One more thing, remember last Saturday was Macs first game after his injury. He will also be a big help on D as he gets back into the swing of things with the next 2 games.

I think that getting Lowe back at OLB will put some more beef on the outside. It looked to me like we were trying to keep the middle congested and with King playing head-up the TE, he was pushed in and not able to hold an outside edge. This could have been part scheme, but with Lowe back, it will give us more versatility outside and things should shore up.

I for one, am keeping the faith. We gave up a ton of yards at PSU, but the sky is still blue and water is still wet.

First of all, when Clive returns, I'm betting that Daly takes over for King.

Second, I do have a problem with #7 in Robcat's post. My question is this: If all it takes is some more attention from Kramer (or ANY of the coaches, for that matter), how in the hell do you explain what just happened in Portland? Do you truly believe that some extra attention/planning is all our Defense is missing?

I'm sorry, but the problems/weaknesses of this D go far deeper than injuries and/or coaching. We simply don't possess enough size or strength to stand up to a full game against a big, physical offense. In 2 of our 3 losses, we were flat out overpowered by bigger, stronger O-lines and running backs and that's not going to change this season. Hopefully, however, the 2 Coach K's can "scheme" better and get the most/best out of what we do have. IMO, the best we can hope for from this D crew when we face BIG offenses is to LIMIT the # of points they give up and hopefully start creating some turnovers/short fields for our O.

NOTE: This is NOT a slam on any of our Defensive players; we simply are not a very big nor physical defense. We will be fine against the SAC's and NAU's and I think even the Griz with this unit. Based on what I saw of them on Saturday, I don't even think Eastern's line will overpower us like PSU just did, but their skill players are VASTLY better than the Vikes.

The good news for me, I guess is that from the perspective of our D-line vs our opponents O-line, PSU was the biggest/best of what we had left on our schedule, so I'm really not expecting to see another performance like the Vikes just put on us.
