Mollohan out for NDSU possibly more-Did I hear Kramer right?

Post by kmax » Tue Sep 20, 2005 12:56 pm

I was only half listening but heard torn groin muscle according to Kramer on Sports Nuts. Will not suit up for NDSU and could be out as much as 4-6 weeks and could look for a medical redshirt.

Did anyone else catch Sports Nuts today? Please tell me that I heard this incorrectly.

You heard right. It's a shame, not only was he a superior LB, but he was a great leader. We have the talent to fill the gap, but I don't know if we have the savvy.

GET WELL SOON MAC!

Thanks for the confirmation Gavin. I think I was trying to talk myself into the fact that I misheard it. That one hurts. Hope for a complete recovery!

Marudus to slide over to Mollohan's spot and Clayton Curley to start.

Not good news at all, but a huge opportunity for former walkon Clayton Curley from Stevensville.

Will this have a bigger impact than getting Gatewood back. :?:

Who becomes the backup, or do we go back to the 4-3 with Mollohan's loss.

What about Wes Mauia? Is he ready to get in there and knock some heads? He is a big fast kid.

I don't see us going back to 4-3. We do have very good depth at linebacker when you consider both of the running back converts are there. Also, that Mauia hits like a mack truck!

We will definitely miss Mollohan; no doubt about that! I hope he heals well and heals fully before trying to come back.

Until then we do have excellent athletes to come in and take his place.

This isn't good news, but I think we have the talent to replace him.

Don't be surprised if we do switch to the 4-3 some though.

Mauia and Curley, and maybe even Daly should be able to step up.

Last Friday I heard from a Griz friend who talked to Bob Daly's dad that Mollohan was supposed to be out with a hamstring injury for the Cal Poly game. I didn't dare say anything especially since no one else seemed to report anything like it. He must have played hurt. I was skeptical especially when I saw him play at Cal Poly...but it must have had some truth.

Wow, I didn't want to hear that. From what I remember both of the cal-poly long option plays in the second half happened to the side that curley was on. Actually I know this for sure. Not saying either one was his fault but marudas might of made the play, as marudas moves in when mollohan is out. I thought daly did a pretty good job filling in for mollohan during the ok. st. game when mollohan had cramps.

Kramer said that Mauia is not ready yet! Daley will come in and Maraudas will move over to Mac's spot. If Mac can't play next week he may redshirt him.

And the MSU press release makes it official. I hope for a speedy, but complete recovery for Mac.
BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Montana State linebacker Mac Mollohan will
miss Saturday's game against North Dakota State, Bobcat head coach Mike
Kramer announced Tuesday.
A team captain from Kalispell, Mollohan suffered a torn muscle
near his hip, an MRI confirmed Tuesday. The injury shelves the two-time
All-Big Sky linebacker for at least a week, Kramer said.
"This is a serious situation for Mac and for our defense,"
Kramer said. "Our medical staff will evaluate the injury again next
week." A third-year starter, Mollohan has 16 tackles this season, along
with two pass breakups.

WELL.

This was/is an absolutely terrible way to start my day.

On top of Saturday's performance and a top 10 team coming to town, we lose the heart & soul of our D...

Maybe I'll just go back to bed and hope it's all a bad dream...

The best way we can win this game (espeically with Mac out) is to get a quick lead and have our offense ball control all day. The best defense is a GOOD sustained offensive drive. We need to get NDSU behind so we can make them on dimensional and make their QB have to throw the ball down the field for some long stikes (sounds like their offense is a mix of hard running and quick short pasing strikes). So it is imperative that MSU get clicking early on offense.

The D line is also going to need to have a stellar day. If they do their job up front, I'm confident we have people in the linebacking corps who can come up and make those plays. But, when offensive lineman are not needed to block on the line and can release into the backfield and tie up linebackers, big gains will happen.
So, come on D line show us some love!!
