Travis Lulay's senior season began in style Saturday, and he was rewarded Monday
Montana State senior Travis Lulay earned the first Big Sky Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honor of the season for his performance as the team's punter Saturday, the league office announced Monday.
Lulay punted six times against Big 12 opponent Oklahoma State, averaging 42.8 yards a kick. He also pinned the Cowboys inside the 20 twice. Lulay's arm, however, gave MSU its biggest special teams play of the day. Lined up in deep punt formation midway through the first quarter, Lulay found his roommate Ryan Force over the middle for a 37-yard gain and a first down that sustained a Bobcat drive. The drive culminated on Michael Bass' three-yard run that gave MSU a 10-8 lead, and edge the Bobcats carried into the third quarter.
Lulay was one of Division I-AA's top punters last year, averaging over 42 yards a kick. He also threw one touchdown out of deep punt formation a year ago.

Nothing against the Big Sky defensive Player of the Week (POW) selection (Idaho State DE Jeff Charleson; 2 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss, & 1 pass breakup), but in my humble yet fair MSU opinion, I believe Ryan Force should have been C0-defensive POW (8 tackles, 1 sack 1 37 yard pass reception). Who was the better opponent; Southern Utah or Okie State?? Throw us a bone, Fullerton!!!
