Early Preseason Football Polls

Post by kmax » Thu Jun 03, 2004 10:02 am

So far two of the college preview magazines that cover I-AA football have come out and given early preseason top 25 rankings. The two polls are way different, but I guess between the already tough job of picking teams in June and the fact that they probably don't know alot about I-AA football would be the cause for that.

Street and Smith's:
1. Delaware
2. Maine
3. Northern Arizona
4. Furman
5. Montana
6. Southern Illinois
7. Colgate
8. Northern Iowa
9. Wofford
10. Northwestern State
11. Grambling State
12. Massachusetts
13. S. F. Austin
14. Western Kentucky
15. Montana State
16. Western Illinois
17. Appalachian State
18. Villanova
19. Georgia Southern
20. Northeastern
21. Illinois State
22. Yale
23. Gardner-Webb
24. McNeese State
25. Lehigh

Athlon:
1. Southern Illinois
2. Wofford
3. Delaware
4. Georgia Southern
5. Montana
6. Villanova
7. Colgate
8. Furman
9. Northern Iowa
10. Western Kentucky
11. McNeese State
12. Maine
13. S. F. Austin
14. Montana State
15. Western Illinois
16. Appalachian State
17. NC A&T
18. Northwestern State
19. Northeastern
20. Grambling State
21. Northern Arizona
22. Lehigh
23. Southern
24. Bethune-Cookman
25. Gardner-Webb

Both mags have more I-AA coverage so check em out for further coverage.

Wow...Northern Arizona is #3 in one poll and #21 in the other.
Another instance of preseason polls not meaning squat....other than fun stuff to talk about.

Exactly! For instance, we're ranked at 14 and 15, and everyone "in the know" knows we'll be numero uno when it's all said & done... 8)

Anytime the BOBCATS are ranked in a preseason top 15 I view it as the gospel, regardless of who else is in there, and the wild discrepencies of everyone elses ranking. Somewhat surprised Eastern isn't in there...and if Gardner Webb is returning most of last years team, wonder why they are? The really good news? It all starts in about 90 days!!!

If Gardner-Webb is better than EWU this year, I'll wear a Grizzly sweatshirt around town for an entire month... We need to pay these people to leave us out of the preseason polls for once, maybe then we can avoid the annual dissapointing loss(es) in non-conference play.

That's what I was thinking. We handed them their a$$es last year to the tune of 38-3 and let up in the 4th...
