The big thing that I think we need to see in the quarterback position is leadership, leadership, leadership... someone willing to put the team on his shoulders. The quarterback must be confident and resilient and never show fear. I didn't see that this year, especially in the big games. The offense never really clicked (including against Fuhrman!), I think partly because there wasn't one athlete leading the charge and holding everyone up to higher standards.
I saw two really great kids (Jack and Cory) giving it their all, trying to play within the system and following in some really big shoes; but I didn't see the leadership. I saw two dedicated athletes doing their level best to execute the game plan and ten other players on offense all trying to do the same. Both Cory and Jack did a commendable job, and the players around them did, too. All of the athletes left it all on the field and made me so proud to be a Bobcat. But the difference between a championship offense, and ours, I'm afraid, is the leadership on the field.
I could get past the "rookie" mistakes that both Jack and Cory made and look forward to them at the reigns next year, if it seemed like either of them had the emotional cool, the charisma if you will, to run the team. I just don't think they do. Amanti Edwards made mistakes (and he's obviously got incredible athleticism) but he had that special leadership quality, as of course did Travis.
I hope that we do ourselves the service of at least shopping for a quarterback in the off season. And hey, if half the hype about Rasmussen is true (and I've seen him play and suspect at least a good chunk of it is) he may just have the attitude to make the difference, even if he makes rookie mistakes.
I think we need to strongly consider using the athleticism and commitment and dedication of Jack and Cory in other facets of the game.

Whenever Rolo had time, he made big plays. Also, several times when he was on the verge of getting smashed, he made big plays to win games. He's not superman. He was the guy that was picked #2 by the coaches, and when his chance came, he competed and ended up in the second round of the playoffs. That, to me, is a great effort and I applaud him for it.
