For those who keep saying the lights wouldn't be that much, you all have to remember that lights means night games (no kidding!
), and there are alot of other things that would have to be done in and around Bobcat Stadium to make it usable for regular night games. I don't think there is much in the way of lighting under the stands on either side of the stadium is there? Those that have spent a Friday night up at the stadium should agree that we would have to have lights in the parking lots. I'm sure there are many other little things in addition to just putting up four poles and some light banks.

Not that this should really matter to UM or MSU, but Michigan actually does have portable lights similar to the ones ESPN brought to Missoula in 2004. They start most of their games at noon, but if you look at their schedule, they always have a couple home games that start at 3:00 or 3:30, too (including their game with Iowa this year, which I attended...that's the only reason I took note of the lights).Egg Salad wrote:
These guys and their fans are doing pretty good without lights.
Big Ten teams are known to have 11am games sometimes. Noon is fine with me.
And the Big House looks awesome when it's all lit up, btw. As did Wa Griz, in 2004.

This will probably cause the thread to be split, but I think this is a matter of perception - i know when we went to Bozeman in 2003 I thought the tailgating was terrible, we were way off in a field, the real tailgating was inside a fenced area we couldn't get to, no general tailgate area just a bunch of Little private ones, while at Wa - Griz you had the large GSA tailgate that anyone could show up at, listen to live music, buy beer or burgers if you didn't bring anything, plus hundreds of individual tailgates where if you struck up a conversation someone would hand you a beer, plus the "corporate" tailgates where all you need is an invitation (to satisfy liquor laws) or a membership to get in.rtb wrote:Are you implying that all we need to do is go to Missoula to learn about a game day experience?Billings_Griz wrote:Do you really need to travel a couple thousand miles to see?
I don't want this to start as a who's got better tailgating, etc, but I do want to say this. I was in Missoula for Cat/Griz this year and have been to games up there in the past. The experience inside the stadium is absolutely a great gameday atmosphere, but the "tailgating" and outside the stadium isn't that great. WaGriz's location doesn't allow for a big festival like atmosphere and half the tailgates have private party signs. To me that isn't tailgating. Tailgating is about being with all the fans and anyone that walks by should feel comfortable to stop and grab a beer or some food and bs for a while. In terms of excitement the feel at WaGriz is one of the best, but the pregame tailgating isn't so great.
But if you don't understand how or where to tailgate in Missoula I can see how you and Cardiac might not think much of it, just like my experience in Bozeman - if you just walk around past the parties, but don't join in they are no fun. Which is better? Who knows, it is probably a matter of taste - or more likely who your host is when you are tailgating.

In order to see how Appalachian State tailgates I think you would.Billings_Griz wrote:Do you really need to travel a couple thousand miles to see?
Regardless how great you think griz tailgating is, don't you think it is possible to learn a few things from anybody else, and that maybe a team in a totally different conference in a different part of the country may give you some new ideas that might work well?
Ok, I realize you were probably joking/provided with an opening for some good natured smack. I didn't take your remark too seriously, so don't take my response too seriously and this won't degenerate to a smack thread.

The stones concert and the evening game against NH were unbelievable. I really can't wait for lights to be added to WGS. Hope the Griz get another night playoff game this year.
Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.
