GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Coming off a 13-10 Southern Conference win over Georgia Southern on Saturday, the Furman Paladins climbed two spots to eighth in the latest Sports Network NCAA I-AA poll, which was released Monday afternoon.
Furman, which concluded its regular season with an 8-3 overall record and 6-1 mark in Southern Conference play, will await Sunday's NCAA I-AA selection show to see if it secures what is expected to an at-large bid to the 2006 playoffs, which get underway on Saturday, Nov. 25. The selection show will be carried by ESPNews between 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Furman is positioned to earn its third straight I-AA playoff bid and 15th postseason appearance after winning four of its final five games. The Paladins are 17-13 overall in playoff action and last year defeated Nicholls State (14-12) and Richmond (24-20) before falling to Appalachian State (29-23) in the I-AA semifinals. Furman is the last I-AA team to defeat ASU, having claimed a 34-31 regular season win in Greenville last year.
Furman sports the best record (64-24, .727%) of all NCAA I-A and I-AA football programs in the Carolinas this decade and third best overall mark in I-AA since 2000. The Paladins have earned national rankings for a SoCon best 42 consecutive weeks since 2004 and have been ranked no lower than 12th during that span.

Yep we have a really big task ahead of us and need to play well. Furman is definately going to be a tough game. I hope we have enough gas left in the tank after that emotional/physical game last week, but I think we will get this team going with ROWDY/VOCAL fans this week. Our guys just need to focus/play hard/have fun out there and I think we will come out on top on this one. We really need to tackle/wrap up well again this week!Billings_Griz wrote:Nothing major, just found it interesting.
