Yes, definitely. He sounds like a great "fit" for MSU and Bobcat football. I really hope the coaches get in contact with him soon. I really like what I am hearing about this kid. With the Cats playing for their season every week, wondering if this has maybe affected the amount of time the coaches spend contacting prospective recruits.

I'm going to keep beating this drum: Yes, yes, yes. This kid is exactly the type of athlete that this program needs to be looking at (and probably is). Well spoken, seems like a solid citizen, hard worker, family ties and a football player. Not a sprinter in pads (not that that's a completely bad thing, team speed wins). I definitely thought of Bobby Daly when I read the first article about Raunig. Here's a player who is there for the taking and, oh by the way, happened to be second team all state in Colorado as a junior.College Recruiter wrote:Raunig had 19 tackles (14 solos) in last weekends game, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery, and 1 TD as fullback. His team won their conference championship with win last week.
Media in Denver says Raunig is best LB in Colorado.
Does MSU want him?
All that being said, I have a good feeling that he'll be in blue & gold next year...

This weeks update:
Dan Raunig's team Mountain Vista won their first round 5A playoff game 57-3 (42-3 at halftime)....The first team for MV played half the game, and Raunig (I know it is unbelievable!) had 19 tackles again this week in the first half. He did not play a down in the second half. He had 17 solo's and 2 assists in 2 qtrs!!!!!!!! Also, Raunig is #1 in tackles for 5A football in the state of Colorado with 132 tackles in 10 games with vast majority being SOLOS!
A few inches too short for MSU?? This kid may go as athlete/safety/LB for Colorado State at this rate. UM and UNC now on him and calling according to Rivals site.

I don't think the problem is that they don't think he can play, but we are extremely deep (and young) at LB. If he is fast enough to play S then we absolutely need to kid this kid in here as he can obviously flat out play. We just aren't losing very many people so there aren't that many schollies to offer. It might just be that we go to fill a need rather than bringing someone in here that could be a special player. The problem is his height issue in a 3-4 scheme. He has to be a middle guy, but maybe I'm overanalyzing too. If he can flat out play, then get him in here. Just don't let him go to the Griz no matter what.
Family is family forever, until they become a Griz fan.

Mountain Vista won their playoff game against Thomas Jefferson HS this week to make it to "The Great Eight" quarter finals. They came back to win 46-43 with a late 4th qtr. score. Raunig led his team in tackles with 15 against the bruising running of 220 lb. tailback and #1 rusher in Colorado Nigel Nelson. TJ's fullback is a load as well at 235 lbs. Raunig made several key 3rd down and 4th down stops at the line of scrimmage stopping cold the big backs for TJ.
Raunig is widely considered by coaches and media throughout Colorado as the best linebacker in 5A football.

Does anyone know if any family members have contacted the coaching staff directly to let them know about this kid? That might be more efficient than hoping the coaches pick up on him by reading this website (or having a fan tell him that they heard about a great recruit from another poster on Bobcatnation.com ... which may not be as compelling as we would hope).
I'm all for talking about it in here ... but sending information directly to the coaches is probably going to get better results.

I would guess Nick has talked to Kramer - and if he is a cousin on the Morasko side I would also venture that a few uncles would refer him to 'that other school'. I think Nick actually has another cousin in Idaho that is a stud also. If we can turn Kramer into a die-hard Republican, there might be an edge on that one if we push how liberal UM is.Bay Area Cat wrote:Does anyone know if any family members have contacted the coaching staff directly to let them know about this kid? Nick - Maybe you can put your own team together and get Shane Mac for a special teams coach. If you remember the pregame studying, nobody knew more about the other team's kickers and punters than he did - and he even retained it despite consuming large quantities of alcohol. He was also a big advocate for Kramer to put you in as an option QB instead of wasting your game-breaking speed on the D-Line. Clearly he was a genius all the way around. I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have to worry about the roll punt, because he always said punters don't belong in football. 4th and 34 from our own 4 and we're going to run a triple option right. Just think how good he and I would have done at school if we had spent as much time on our classes as we did making you a better special teams player, and I don't even remember you being on special teams.

Shane Mac a.k.a Jimmy Chipwood would have made an excellent special teams coach on Kramer's staff. He ultimately would have been a Public Relations nightmare and a distraction to the team leaving the sidelines and joining the parties in the stands. You still can't question the man's genius only his integrety
