Why do we sit on the ball at the end of the half?

Post by 94VegasCat » Mon Nov 06, 2006 5:03 pm

I saw this in another thread and wanted to start a whole conversation about it.

My father and I have noticed this at every home game. We have sat on the ball to end the first half of all home games this season. What gives?

Throw it deep a few time and if we can make anything of it. I think that when we play at home, Baileys wife keeps Dons testicles in her purse. She only lets him have them when the CATS are on the road. Open up the playbook Mr. Bailey!!! We are averaging a bunch more points per game and yards per game MORE when we go on the road. The evidence of this is in the stats. Do the coaching staffs rear-ends pucker up at home and win at all costs on the road? If we played at home like we do on the road, we would not have lost 3 in September. Maybe 1, but not three.

Actually, we threw the ball deep on the final play of this past Saturday's game. If Jack doesn't overthrow it, Josh Lewis scores on that play and we go into halfime rolling. It's a field position thing; if we're backed up with little time, the risk isn't worth it. Take the knee and get ready for the second half.

I guess you weren't watching the UC Davis game. Just as I'm arguing with some people that we should run out the clock and consider a 10-0 deficit to be a blessing given the way we'd played, we throw an interception from deep in our end with about a minute in the half. UC Davis scores on the next play, goes to the half up 17-0 and the game is over.

I will agree with you that I prefer to see the more aggressive approach of continuing to go for it but I think we need to be aware of the situation. Field position, momentum, etc. need to factor heavily into the decision.

I do remember the one pass to Lewis, but in general, we have been very nonchalant it seems to end the half.

I have said this in numerous threads and I will say it again...... This team has so much talent/depth that it is a shame that we are not blowing opponents off of the field. I guess that I would like to see us go on a 4 or 25 game winning streak. (no typing errors here, I know what I said. 4 or 25 gws)
