wet swilly thinks the Griz will be the next Gonzaga.
That, my friend, does not qualify as sane.

People laughed when the Zags said it too.

That's funny; the Zags didn't talk about it, they just did it.
At least griz fans have the talking part down.
MARK IT DOWN: THE GRIZZLIES WILL NEVER BE RANKED IN THE TOP 25 IN D1 BASKETBALL. NOT EVEN DURING A SINGLE SEASON, LET ALONE IN MULTIPLE YEARS.

I'm not saying it will happen. I just don't see why it couldn't.

Doesn't really matter why it couldn't; the fact is, it WON'T.

while i was annoyed that after a fast start to non-conference play, griz fans started talking like they were the next gonzaga, i hate when people say that there is no way that something could happen. maybe not neccesarily the griz, but i hate to think that there is never going to be any chance that a big sky school could eventually build a very successful program. i just hate the thought that for the rest of my life as a cat fan, the best i can hope for is a 14 seed in the dance, and one and done. then what the hell are we playing for? why do we even have a program? sorry, i'm not a fan of WONT, NEVER, COULDN'T HAPPEN. seems a little closed-minded imo.

whatever.
It isn't going to happen for any Big Sky team, no matter how much you dislike that fact.

True facts, EG.
No matter which team in the BSC does what or who they play or what the W-L is, the simple fact is we play within ourselves as a conference, but do not play with the "big boys" enough to ever be in the Top 25.
This is not to say that a BSC team could not go far in "March Madness" if they had a great team.

Griz finished #20 in the country in 1975, too, but I think El Gato is saying in the modern BSC no team will get ranked.
I don't know that i would say never, but I lean towards agreeing with Gato, and her is why - anytime a BSC team shows any promise at all their coach is gone the next year. It takes years of success to get respect in DI basketball, and great coaches won't stick around that long. Throw in the fact that every year 1/2 the conference is bottom feeders in D1 (not just BSC bottom feeders but D1 bottom feeders) and any success you do have will be discounted.
Now that doesn't mean that a BSC team can't reach the sweet 16, that could happen by a 14th seeded BSC team beating a 3 seed, while an 11 beats a 6 in the same bracket - that could happen.

If our guard play remains strong next year, UM could absolutely crack the top 25. Hell, we already got a top 25 vote this year. If we win that Milwaukee game, I guarantee we would've picked up a few more. Nevertheless, after we hot knife through the conference and win our bracket buster, we should be right back up there.
Damn, UM is great!

2002, do you actually THINK about your posts before you start scratching at your keyboard?
The almighty Griz start the season 10-1, including a win over Stanford (impressive for their reputation, at least), and you got exactly ONE measly vote. You look at that as a sign that you were CLOSE to getting ranked, when in reality it shows just how far the Big Sky is from any acclaim, recognition, or respect on a national level.
To grizbeer and scats, yes, I am aware that Big Sky teams have achieved a top 25 ranking IN THE PAST. grizbeer is correct in his assumption that I am talking in the present & future. I am sure at SOME POINT in the next 20 years, some Big Sky team might crack the top 25 for a week or two. The problem for the Big Sky is that due to our poor recognition factor, a team would probably have to be at least 16-1 to even break into the top 25.
But there are a few delusional griz fans who keep throwing up the GONZAGA word (it started with Hogan & Kennedy; that speaks VOLUMES) and I simply can't forsee a Big Sky team achieving that level of performance & expectation: YEARS of top 25 rankings; ANNUAL trips to the NCAA Tourney; ROUTINE appearances in the Sweet 16 (even the Zags aren't there quite yet!).
Find a more achievable goal, Sky fans; like how about actually making the Dance in consecutive years! Yes, griz fans, the good news is it looks like you might have a chance this season!

If my scenario plays out as I have laid it out, we will crack the top 25.
This is the truth.
