Yes, how many yards does Lex have this year (lets not count your first game against Helgate)? Is he even averaging 100 yards yet. What a bruiser. And the speed, that incredible 4.9 speed. Watching Lex run is like watching grass grow!

You are lost gtapp, Lex runs a 4.6, and any coach in the BSC would take him in an instant over the back they have. He is sharing time, and running out of the shotgun most of the time. If he played for Portland St. he would already have the Payton wrapped up.

Lex is good, but personally I don't think he's better than Rubin...

Lex is currently averaging 111 yards per game. I think he is a better back than Rubin, but Rubin plays in an offense more suited to high numbers of rushing yards.

opinions vary catatac. But I highly doubt if you asked any coach in the big sky they would take Rubin over Lex. Rubin doesn't have anywhere near the explosiveness of Lex, nor is is flat out as fast. Rubin is running behind a team built to run, Lex is running behind a team that is built to pass. While the Griz O-line does a fine job run blocking, they are pass blockers.
Lex will be in the NFL as a RB, Rubin won't. There are NFL scouts already who are pretty high on Lex.

Is that picture above against Rocky Mountain :)

The Griz have to come into our house. Our fans will be ready. Lex will get his 100, but that is not what is going to win the game. Lulay and Co. will do the rest.

That team would be Northern Colorado, you know, a team that beat you the last time you played, in your house.

So who is smoking the funny cigarettes?

Rubin is "running behind a team built to run". Interesting comment. And what, pray tell, is Montana built to do, pass?

The poster poster who used the excuse that Hilliard had tyo run from a shotgun formation, which explains his relative lack of success was correct. My question is, Montana doesn't have a passing game, so, why would our genius coaching staff require Lex to run out of a passing set, instead of designing an offense which would best utilize their stud RB?

The answer is, Phenici's offense is not good at running, nor passing. It is ridiculous, easy to predict, easy to defense.

The original poster suggests that the Cats weak run defense will allow Hilliard to have a field day running the ball. I would remind them that NAU had the worst run defense in the Big Sky, and Lex was totally ineffective in running the ball against NAU. No runner can run against8-9 men within teo yards of the line of scrimmage. If I were defensing Phenicie, I would MAKE the Griz pass to beat me. They can't do it. The QBs are too inaccurate to beat anyone passing the football.

That is why I'm hoping for a nice breezy day in Bozeman next week :) Lualy's balls are on a rope usually and are not bothered by the wind. Berquist passes have air under them.

I don't disagree for the most part wolf. Just as I've said plenty of times. The key to giving the Griz trouble is stacking the box. I just don't turn every post into a Hauck/Phenice hate fest, it gets old. I throw away broken records, I don't keep playing them over and over and over and over.
The facts are, winning is what counts, even though I like it done with style, style point's don't count. Wins do. The Griz made it farther than any team in I-AA last year, but one, and may do the same this year with a frosh QB and a bunch of slower type young WR's. Not bad. Some credit, would be given by any reasonable person.
I know people who probably don't like Hauck as a coach, but they will give credit where it is due. It tends to add credibility.

I agree opinions vary. IMO Lex is a great running back and tough to bring down once he gets a head of steam. However, of the games I've watched him in this year - if you get to him around or behind the line of scrimmage, he doesn't do much. When teams game-plan correctly to stop him, they succeed. I think he had 50-some yards against EWU. Any bets that Groves gets more?

That is where the scheme comes in catatac. Most of Hilliards runs are delays, and outside zone plays, power plays. To utilize him properly, I would have him running out of the I for starters, at least more. More with a lead blocker too. And I would run him predominantly between the tackles.
That is why I say, if he were running for PSU, he would probably have the Payton wrapped up. Nobody has his explosiveness. His top end speed isn't super, but the rate at which he gets to his top end speed is incredible.
Rubin is a good back, no doubt. But he may have the best run blocking Oline in the BSC.

I'd say it's Kramer's balls that are more in danger of being strung up, but I won't argue with you
