Friz vs Ducks
I found this on Yahoo to be interest about the game.
"The Grizzlies (1-1) stayed close early but weren't consistent enough on offense.
Bowling Green transfer Jason Washington was 10-for-23 passing for 85 yards for Montana, which beat Fort Lewis 55-0 last week and is ranked third in Division I-AA. Tailback Lex Hilliard had just 15 yards on 13 carries."

I wasn’t surprised about Washington’s performance, but I was really surprised with Lex’s. I really thought Lex would have racked up at least 50 yards in the game.
We won’t know how good or bad the Griz are until they take the field against South Dakota State. This weekend’s game will tell us more about the Griz then the previous two weekends.

I didn't see the play (or any of the game, for that matter), but just as a matter of statistics, how would that be scored? If Washington fumbles and Lex falls on the ball ten yards behind the line of scrimmage, is that really treated as a carry for -10 by Lex? It doesn't seem right, but I don't know the rule...Hell's Bells wrote:lex lost a good amount of yards covering up a fumble from who??? It wasn't a fumble per se. Jason went to the line to change the protection and while he was up there the ball was snapped to no one. Lex fell on it.Grizlaw wrote:I didn't see the play (or any of the game, for that matter), but just as a matter of statistics, how would that be scored? Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, but a play like that should be treated simply as a loss to the teams total yardage without being hung on a specific player.
Another one of these statistical anomalies to me is that receivers should be charged with interceptions whenever they have a pass get away from them and ends up getting picked. I know it would be subjective, but it would be similar to the error/hit rulings in baseball. I just hate seeing a QB put the ball right on the money only to have the receiver turn it into an interception...

Agreed, and I think in many cases it is. Pretty sure from looking at the stats from the MSU-SFA game that is how they scored the bad snap on the punt that the punter kicked out of the endzone.El_Gato wrote:Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, but a play like that should be treated simply as a loss to the teams total yardage without being hung on a specific player.

I noticed how the announcers when the game was carried on tv were quick to say how good lex was and blamed his lack of yards on the O line and the quick linemen of the ducks.
But this has to be the quote of the week
I might have underestimated the speed of their defensive line, just because of their size," said Washington
they are fast - no kidding i think the chatboards knew more about that then JW

As I believe Gato said over on eGriz, this game really tells us nothing about the Griz other than their Defense is better than the score indicated. SDSU is the first relevant game we will play this year. I have a feeling, however, that we will struggle to move the ball somewhat this year. Could be some close, low scoring games won by the team that doesn't make the big mistake.

I am not sure that this was not a better gauge of the Griz than SDSU. SDSU is carrying 42 scholarships this year (up from 36 last year). OU is a lower tier D-1 but SDSU is a lower tier D-1AA. You may not know what you really have until conference play.UMclassof2002 wrote:As I believe Gato said over on eGriz, this game really tells us nothing about the Griz other than their Defense is better than the score indicated. Yes they did. They had a really good QB though that has graduated so I am not sure if they are as good this year. They may be, but he was the one that kept them in that game for the most part.Grizlaw wrote:Didn't SDSU take the Cats to the wire last year?
I don't intend that as smack; I'm just saying, 20 fewer scholarships or no, SDSU might be a better team than some BSC teams.
