I believe this is the 3rd year in a row I've heard a griz fan claim this. Remember how good they all predicted they'd be after losing to the turf in Nooga in 04? They followed that up by fielding the worst offense they've had in 15+ years.

Speaking of next year, GinWa, how does it feel to know you'll be looking for a new starting QB AGAIN???
Maybe some people thought we'd be better in 05 than 04. I wasn't one of those people. I DO think we're much better this year than last, but the loss of Lex really dampens that, and the loss of Ty Johnson is no party either. Just the return of those two people, plus the fact that I believe the Griz will return something like 19 starters, plus the two specialists leads me to believe they could be scary-good next year.

As for the QB search, I can't see looking too much when we've got Cole. But then, I never see how competition is a bad thing.

I do agree with catatac (except his PSU prediction, of course!! :) ) that the next few weeks will be very telling for both programs. For what it's worth, I still see the two battling down to the end for the BSC title.

I will have to admit that I, for one, are getting tired of this "wait till next year " train of thought for Griz fans. The fact is that Hauck has had one good season. The others were embarrassing first round losses at home to inferior teams. In addition, he is 1-2 versus the Cats. I can not believe the fact that more posters on egriz are not calling for his *ss on a platter. But most posters on egriz are lauding him as a great coach. Simply amazing to me. It is always "wait until next year" with theses guys. One of the reasons I do not visit that board much any longer.

If anyone does not think that the pressure is on for Bobby to win the conference outright, beat the Cats at home, and go deep into the playoffs (we were a Top 4 ranked preseason team), then they are uninformed.

I have been told that Bobby has stated as much in private. He realizes that he must fish or cut bait this season.

I'm all for that. Gonna be the best 2-day drunk I've had in a long time. 8)

I could go for a triple-overtime Griz win.

If the Griz make it through the Big Sky and win or tie, and go deep into the playoffs... I'll state right here and now that he's a damn good recruiter AND coach... especially having lost Lex, Tyson, and others. Although I do feel like it's much easier for a coach to succeed at UM than most other schools due the the tradition, etc. UM recruits itself...

True, we'd need an intermission after regulation to "re-stock".

Okay, not trying to be a dick, nor is my question rhetorical. I really would like to get cat fan's thoughts on this: Why is this the standard that Hauck has to live up to? Other coaches, Kramer included, are considered great coaches when they haven't taken teams deep into the playoffs. And it's not just cat fans that hold UM coaches to that level. Griz fas are even worse. I've just never really understood it.

Apples & oranges, GinWa.

When you inherit a traditionally powerful program, your job is to maintain them at or near the top; has Hauck done that? I suppose it depends on the fan: Very good regular season record and a NC game appearance in 04. BUT, no outright BSC titles, 2 first-round playoff losses at home, and that ugly 1-2 mark vs the Cats. There's plenty there for supporters & haters alike.

Kramer, on the other hand, took over a dismal program and has made it, at the very least, respectable within our own conference. He's shared 3 of 4 BSC titles, and taken us to the post-season 2 of the last 4 years. From a record/playoff standpoint, I'd say personally that at this point, he's achieved less than I'd hoped for but we are at least now a team that has a chance to beat every team we line up against. I've said for a long time that this is the year we find out whether Kramer has created a NATIONALLY competitive program, or just a better-than-average Big Sky team. For those of us craving the former, the Chadron loss was a bitter pill to swallow...

The one HUGE intangible that Kramer has that I don't think Hauck shares is that Kramer has done SOOOOOOO much for the pride (and hence $$$$) of Bobcat Athletics. The guy is just so damn charismatic that I truly believe it gives him a bit of a cushion when it comes to on-the-field performances. Hauck's personality is, at best, a bit abrasive, aloof, arrogant, and sometimes childish (at least that's how he comes across to many, griz & non-griz alike); I seriously doubt that Bobby's presence has actually increased the interest and/or $$$ in Grizzly football or Grizzly Athletics more than any average coach would have.

If Kramer had Hauck's personality, I have no doubt that his record/results would have many people calling for his termination the past few years. I do think he will start having to face the music, however, if the Cats don't make the playoffs this year (not from me, mind you, but I think a number of Cat fans/donors will express their displeasure).

You may compare what GSU did to their coach last year for going 8-4 and losing in the first round (who by the way received the keys to a team and won a national championship)
