Sean Whyte kicked a 33-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to help the BC Lions rally for a 19-17 pre-season CFL victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday afternoon.
With Saskatchewan up 17-16 in the fourth quarter, Lions quarterback Travis Lulay drove BC to Saskatchewan's 25-yard line to set up Whyte's game-winning field goal at 12:02.
Lulay played most of the game for BC and finished 13 of 23 for 142 yards

Thanks for posting the update on Travis Lulay. It sounds like he played a very solid, if unspectacular game. Where does he currently stand on the depth chart....is he likely to be the #2 QB going into the regular season?

currently listed as #3
Casey Printers is their starter, as he was last year (and 2004/5) after BC picked him up (again) from Hamilton where he was not the starter - Printers lead BC to the Grey Cup game in 2004 and was the CFL's MVP that year, but a guy named Dave Dickenson got healthy and played the entire game for BC
Jarious Jackson (Notre Dame) is #2, was their starter in 2007/8, was #2 in 2009 behind Buck Pierce, also went down with a shoulder injury last year, when Travis was given the start before he went down with his shoulder injury
I think Travis started last year as #4, but saw PT due to injuries -- I believe BC had Buck Pierce, Zac Champion, Jarious Jackson, and Travis all go down with injuries last year. They burned through 6 QB's during the season.

Six QB....wow!! And we thought MSU had injury problems last year. It sure would be cool to see him get more than just token playing time this season. Thanks for the info.

BC's O'line was HORRIBLE last year. They couldn't stop anyone. I'm amazed any of their qb's survived. Travis was looking good in the game he was hurt in too. I actually managed to catch it on altitude. BC was lost and doing nothing on offense and Travis just started moving the ball running. He actually took two or three big hits before he was injured. He wasn't doing much passing but the offense finally seemed a little in sync. Then he got hurt and the backup came in and played well. With Printers being a paper tiger and Jackson being so inconsistent, I wouldn't be surprised to see TL get another shot.

gotta luv this article -- looks like Travis is the #2 QB now, and their #1 is fragile
" ........
Lulay played the majority of the Lions' 19-17 pre-season win last weekend in Regina, where his statistics (13-for-24 and 142 yards) were skewed by as many as eight drops by receivers.
"You've got to be very happy with him and not necessarily surprised," Buono said. "He looks like he has been here 10 years. He's got a lot of the same quality traits as Dave Dickenson ... his presence in the huddle and how he interacts with the players. A lot of times when you see him deliver the football, it very much looks like Dave D. The only huge difference is the size and Dave maybe didn't run as well as Travis."
OK, so Lulay is a lot like Dickenson except he's bigger (6-2 and 216 pounds) and more mobile.
Oh, well, that will have to do.
But it's not just Lulay's ability that makes you think his third-string status is largely irrelevant. It's the Lions' circumstances.
Printers, for all his stated good intentions and athletic ability, is six years removed from his one blockbuster CFL season and has several injuries on his medical file. He is far from a sure thing, which is partly why Buono went to Jackson to negotiate a pay cut that could at least keep the 33-year-old around as insurance.
But apart from any potential complications from his surgery, Jackson has proved himself to be most effective as a reliever and is unlikely at his age to have a sudden surge in performance.
Which brings us back to Lulay, who might well already be the starter had a shoulder injury that forced him to miss three games late last season not deprived him an opportunity to win the job as a CFL rookie when Jackson and Pierce were hurt.
................."

Was looking at the BC roster and did not see DC. I thought someone had said he had signed with BC. If so it does not look like he stuck.

Name Att Comp Yards TD Int
LULAY, T 15 9 197 1 0
Stat line for Lulay in the Lions last game against the Roughriders. He also had two fumbles, one they got back and one the defense returned for a touchdown. Had a 92 yard pay to Geroy Simon for his touchdown. Sounds like the Lions O-line is in shambles and the qb's were running for their lives. Printers, the starter, was knocked out of the game just before the half. Not sure if he plays the next game or not.

Thanks for the update!! It's a little disappointing that the Montana media aren't covering Lulay's exploits in BC more thoroughly. I would guess the Chronicle has been tracking his progess, but I haven't seem anything in the Tribune. Has there been any Lulay coverage in the Gazette?
