belichick on 4th and 2...
so i was on the vikings message board and this topic was up. someone asked if childress would have the balls to make the same call with the vikings. i stated that he wouldn't because it was obviously a stupid call. even if he would have gotten the first, i'd still think it was dumb. but in that situation, when you don't have a challenge, you're inside your own thirty, you're winning, and peyton manning is on the other side....you punt everytime. it just seems so obvious to me. but to my surprise, i was pretty much the only one on this side of the fence. but i mainly think that it's because everyone over there thinks childress is the worst coach ever, so i think part of it is them saying it was a great gutsy call that he'd never go for. what are everyones thoughts? maybe my line of thinking is way off on this but i just don't see how you don't make them earn the yards to score the winning touchdown.
do you have to know everything to post here? or just think you do?

Peyton can beat you from 99 yards away. Why would you give him just 29 yards to go? DUMB, DUMB, DUMB.

thank you!!!! it's like the twilight zone on that board. i think there has been 20 or something responses and i'm the only one saying it was stupid! if i knew anything about computers i'd cut and copy the thread. i thought i was crazy. i need to not even read it because everytime i do i want to throw something.Billings_Griz wrote:Peyton can beat you from 99 yards away. I said it was stupid in this thread:

Anyone catch the end of this game? What a DB Belichick is. First he makes a stupid decision to go for it on 4th down, then he barely shakes the hand of Caldwell after losing, and then he has his roided-up body-guard/protector throw some poor camera man to the ground for daring to get within 15 feet of the Hooded One as he was dashing off the field.
Couldn't have happened to a better guy.

If I was on the New England defense, I would definitely be pissed off, as that is a lack of confidence that your D can't a hold a 6 point lead with 2 minutes to go if you punt it away.

I actually liked the decision. Thought it was a very interesting one. You have Tom Brady as your QB. You only need to get two yards and have had no real problem moving the ball all night. Called the perfect play, made a good pass. Only thing that messed it up is Faulk bobbled the ball. Still could've had it. If Faulk catches that ball cleanly we are all saying that is a gutsy but smart play because you keep the ball out of Mannings hands. ESPN had some weird formula (not sure how they came up with it) that said the Patriots had a better chance to win the game by going for it on 4th down. I do hate BB and am happy that he lost the game. Most arrogant coach ever.

my only question was this...if punting is not the best play on 4th and 2 inside your OWN thirty, with the lead, and peyton manning on the other side...then WHEN IS punting the smart play? if that is the right decision there, where you basically will win or lose the game (obviously they lost), then i don't see the reason to EVER punt. BB is a clown...BDizzle wrote:I actually liked the decision. Thought it was a very interesting one. You have Tom Brady as your QB.
