2022 Montana Recruits - Tier 5

Post by VimSince03 » Mon Jan 24, 2022 6:55 pm

Tier 5 - "The Projects"

Prospects in this tier:

- have an outside chance of being preferred walk-on FCS football player but likely will only get offers from lower level programs
- may receive full-scholarship offers from NAIA schools in-state and several other lower division schools out-of-state but may just be partials
- are considered above average NAIA players if they sign at that level
- will commonly redshirt if they sign with a lower level program (DII, DIII, NAIA) and will likely contribute within first two years (not necessarily start)
- commonly referred to as "projects" if they get offered by either in-state FCS school
- get the "project" designation because they have one or two traits FCS programs believe they can develop
- will 100% redshirt if they sign with a Cats or Griz and will need at least three years of development prior to playing their junior years (may never be starters)
- will commonly be on the roster bubble at the FCS level after their first year in the program
- are bordering on preferred walk-on talent (FCS) but are missing a few traits (athletic ability, size, smarts, technique, etc.) that have a ceiling
- commonly have been selected All-State at least once during high school
- will commonly get selected as starters or alternates for the Shrine Game
- have potential to be a backup/rotational player (FCS) at least one year with a good chance of being a multi-year starter at a lower level program

35.) Eyston Lakkala (Butte Central) - 5'10", 185 lbs. - RB
Eyston, a standout baseball player as well, played both ways for the Maroons as a RB and LB with the former being his future position at Tech due to his balance, toughness, and vision as a runner.
36.) Raef Newbrough (CMR) - 6'0", 180 lbs. - WR/S
Raef is a rangy receiver/safety prospect out of CMR who snagged 8 interceptions his senior year while producing explosive plays on offense.
37.) Ben Glasscock (Miles City) - 6'4", 220 lbs. - TE/DE
Ben is a "country strong" TE and DE prospect out of Miles City who's best football is ahead of him.
38.) Jon Kirkley (Dillon) - 6'2", 185 lbs. - WR
Jon is an inside receiver prospect out of Beaverhead County who plays physical off the snap but will win with good body control and balance on contested catch opportunities and to create separation at the top of routes.
39.) Peyton Morton (Billings Senior) - 5'11", 200 lbs. - LB
Peyton is hardnosed LB for Senior who sets the tone with his physical play every time he steps on the field.
40.) Bodie Smith (Whitefish) - 6'1", 175 lbs. - WR
Bodie is a WR prospect who produced several great seasons for Whitefish due to his smooth route running and natural hands.
41.) Orion Thivierge (Havre) - 6'1", 185 lbs. – LB
Orion is a state champion wrestler who's athleticism and tenacity shines through when you watch him play LB.
42.) Chance Goltz (Bridger) – 6’4”, 210 lbs. – QB/TE
Chance is the lone 6-man player on the list and his tape shows a player that can compete as a tall QB but possibly start as an athletic TE.
43.) Luke Bilau (Kalispell Glacier) - 6'3", 210 lbs. - HB/TE
Luke started for Glacier since he was a sophomore as a H-back/TE and his ability as an offensive player shows through on his film.
44.) Jonas Johnson (Hamilton) - 6'1", 250 lbs. - OL
Jonas manned the middle for the 2021 State Champ Broncs and you could easily see him penciled in as a starting center for years at the NAIA level.
45.) Johnny Fehr (Eureka) - 6'1", 205 lbs. - DE/LB
Johnny plays with great effort and physicality and is one of the more explosive edge players in this class with a nice twitch on his get-off.
46.) Jase Applebee (Bozeman High) - 5'10", 185 lbs. - ATH
Jase is an explosive football player on both sides of the ball who did a bit of everything for the Bozeman Hawks in 2021.
47.) Michael Armstrong (Bozeman Gallatin) – 6’0”, 195 lbs. – LB/S
The son of MSU OL coach Brian Armstrong, Michael plays the game in a physical manner and shows development versatility as a SAM LB or nickelback.
48.) Kaiden Batzler (Sheridan) - 6'3", 215 lbs. - HB/DE/LB
The only 8-man player on this list, Kaiden was a star for Sheridan this fall as an H-back and LB that earned him a starter spot on the Shrine Game roster.
49.) Jacob Miller (Billings Senior) - 5'8", 170 lbs. - RB/SB
A two-time all-state RB for the Broncs the past two seasons, Jacob can be worked into an offense that wants a player to be productive as a slotback.
50.) Shel Osborne (Laurel) - 6'0", 215 lbs. - LB
Shel is physical inside linebacker who earned the coveted #51 jersey that Laurel gives to a "talented, hard working player who moves from a skill position to the offensive line" which he received as a sophomore so that should tell you a lot about his character as a football player and teammate.
51.) Noah Dalke (Bozeman Gallatin) - 5'9", 165 lbs. - WR
Gallatin had several good football players this past fall and Noah was no exception as he had quality reps every game as a WR and CB.
52.) Braeden Guse (Bigfork) - 6'2", 280 lbs. - OL/DL
Braeden doesn't quite have the athleticism or foot speed to be a FCS level player but the kid has great tape for an OL, especially if you are looking for a kid who can get after it on the interior at the next level.
53.) Jaxon Cotton (Bozeman) - 6'1", 215 lbs. - DE/LB
What Jaxon doesn't have in twitchy athleticism, he has in awareness, effort, and technique.
54.) Jackson Simonson (CMR) - 5'11", 205 lbs. - RB
Jackson was one of the more physical backs in the state this past fall with a downhill running style mixed in with solid receiving skills.
55.) Blake Shoupe (Florence) - 6'1", 180 lbs. – WR/S
Blake was a major reason why the Falcons took home the Class B title in 2021 due to his route running, toughness, and YAC ability as a receiver.
56.) Jacob Sweatland (Missoula Hellgate) – 6’1”, 190 lbs. – RB
Jacob is a productive two-way player who offers development versatility as a RB or LB at the next level.
