Best ever Class AA offenses

Post by mongoo99 » Mon Oct 29, 2018 8:32 am

With Bozeman's win on Thursday night vs. Skyview, could the Hawks have the best offense ever in Class AA? I'm not talking about the best team ever, just the best offense. I used to think Dave Dickenson's CMR teams were the best ever (CMR also had great defenses back in those days), but this Bozeman offense has so many weapons and scores so many points. They don't really seem to care about playing defense, they know they will out score you. There were some great Billings West offenses back in the day, but to me, this Bozeman team is the best Class AA offense ever, even better than Billings Senior with Gabe Sulser or Kalispell Glacier in 2014 when they averaged 50 points per game.

What other Class AA offenses have been great over the years?

For AA, that honor would probably go to the 2014 Glacier team. They set a state record with 645 points in 13 games (49.6/game). Bozeman has scored 465 (46.5/game) so far over 10 games. Meaning they’d have to average 60 points per game in the playoffs to match Glacier’s season. No doubt this Bozeman team is very, very good. Just not sure if “best ever” is accurate.

Glacier had at least 12 from that team eventually go on to play D1 football, and a bunch more play Frontier. Best ever? Not sure, but they have as strong of an argument as anyone.

What was equally impressive on that Glacier team was their defense. They allowed 12.6 points per game. By comparison Bozeman has allowed 22.2 per game thus far.

Billings West 2005 has a decent case:

-Championship season with Andrew Selle at QB
-13-0
-560 PF (43 pts/game scored)
-117 PA (9 pts/game allowed)

I'm sure there are a couple Capital or CMR teams in there too but man that West team was GOOD. Definitely more of a "best team" argument but that offense put up a lot of 50-60 point games against the AA.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

This at least makes me feel better. I was on the Capital team that lost to them in the final :o

Haha. That's a bummer. I graduated that spring so I missed out on being in school when they won.
But yeah, you certainly ran into a buzzsaw that year.

Senior High 2016 should be in the discussion:

13-0 (Hellgate forfeited last game of the regular season)

514 points scored (42.83 points/game) - would have been higher, if Missoula Hellgate game were played
155 points allowed (12.92 points/game)

Scored 60 points once
Scored 50 points 4 times
Scored 40 points 7 times
Never scored fewer than 30 points
