Butte High Quarterback

I ran into an article indicating the BHS QB (Cook?) and his younger brother had attended camps at the U of Washington and others and had scored extremely high. The older one has been invited to one in Eugene at the U of O and to one at USC. Sounds like this guy is the real deal.
Last I heard, on BN, one and maybe two Montana high school football players were on the way to play at FBS schools this fall. One is perhaps a gray shirt. Not long ago we were seeing at least a dozen being recruited and four or five accepting FBS offers. Was there just a lack of FBS level talent this year?

Define "not long ago." I don't ever remember a dozen being offered in a single class. I also can't think of more than 1 or 2 actually signing in one year.

"not long ago" turns out to be an extremely relative term. Folks in their 70's, and there are many reading this Board, would likely find the '84 championship "not that long ago". A 22 year old might think Ash arrived "not that long ago". So I'll restate it as "there was a time" we were seeing at least a dozen....FBS offers. That way I can tell you this. Being neither in my 70's nor 20's "there was a time" when I was a member of the West Shrine team. The west had 6 starters with 1A (some multiple) offers. Five of them accepted; three linemen and two backs. One of the linemen played well in the Pac 10, the other two were home and out of football within two years. One had a career ending knee injury. Of the backs one made it as a lineman and I believe captained his team. He signed with an NFL team, but was cut early. The other back received a career ending neck injury, finished school and coached high school football. The East team had 1A offers for two linemen and one back. One lineman accepted with a team in the midwest. The back also went 1A. As far as I know the lineman finished and the back came home with an injury. He tried with a Frontier school but didn't hold up. The west team sent five to the Bobcats and three to the griz. The east had three Bobcats and four griz. Both teams sent players to the Frontier, mostly Eastern Montana and Western.
The Shrine teams the year ahead of me had more guys with 1A offers. The year after far fewer.
I honestly hadn't paid much attention to how many Montana kids are heading out. Seems like they show up enough over the years, like the quarterback from Great Falls at Washington State/Rose Bowl and the quarterback from Kalispell currently with the Denver Broncos, to make me feel Montana is still shipping a good supply of kids to the FBS. Then I noted here on BobcatNation a post indicating one or two kids were going FBS. It seemed odd to me. Montana, the State, is better than that...much better. On the bright side, maybe the Bobcats and griz are out recruiting in-state kids these days.

Shucks, might as well not even bother playing the season then.

So you don't make predictions ever ? While I want those teams to be in the championship. The main reason I posted at all was because alpha had his name at the top of every board except the football board and I just couldn't take it any longer.

Fair enough, my prediction: Helena High vs Capital High.

That's not a good pick. While they will probably both have good teams, what is the likelyhood that they would end up on opposite sides of the bracket?

Don't they just seed the teams 1-8 now, and top seed plays worst seed, etc.?

Maybe, but don't you think that the polls get manipulated to produce desired outcomes, or eliminate undesired?

I don't think the playoff seeds are based on the polls, they are based on win/loss records, then tie-breakers like head to head, record vs. common opponents, etc. Then #1 plays #8, 2 plays 7, etc. I could be wrong, tho?

I"m relatively sure you could go to the mhsa.org website and see the playoff matchups right now (by place in the standings). The power polls you see each week are a function of the press, not the actual seeding

The seedings are based upon win/loss head to head. Last years seeds were
1. Glacier
2. Butte
3. CMR
4. Helena High
5. Bozeman
6. Billings West
7. Billings Skyview
8. Capital High
