For whatever reason I never saw this. But why did Muller transfer from West to Skyview? He started as a freshman at West if I'm not mistaken. Someone needs to refresh my memory as to what the hell happened.

Parents tried to strong arm Robison last year, when he cut Daine's older brother Brady from Basketball try-outs. Parents threatened to transfer both boys to Skyview if he didn't change his mind, which he didn't. Daine transferred at that time and played JV for Skyview last year. Brady chose not to transfer, since he would have had to transfer from the Scarlets to the Royals in Baseball season.

wow. if that's true....just terrible. great parents.

good for coach robison. as a former hawk it's not easy throwing out compliments to anything "west"....but that guy is all class.

nah....i was a basketball guys and we always beat west.

As is usually the case via online message boards... this post is all assumptions and doesn't contain any input from anyone who knows firsthand what really happened. It is quite unfair for BN poster's to pass judgement on Daine or his parents without knowing the real story. There is always two sides and the coach isn't always right.

I don't know the Muller's and I certainly don't know what happened, but I do know that Muller is a stud athlete and appears to be a good kid. He will definitely play college ball somewhere ... the off-season and 2012-2013 basketball season will determine at what level.

The parents had no influence in Daine transferring to Skyview. He stood up for what he believed in, which was that his brother was better than half the players on the team, and on his own decided to transfer because he couldn't stand the coach and all the politics that came with the program. We all know that in high school sports and sometimes college, though rare in college, politics play a major role.

The only difference in politics between the two levels is that in high school it might result in a weaker player playing over a stronger one. In college, it's often the deciding factor between who plays between two or three equally talented players. Yeah there's politics, but it's the most overused excuse in sports. Second is complaining about officials. Both can be factors, but I'm sick of hearing parents blame somebody else when they don't see that their kid just isn't as good. I'll agree it happens sometimes, but give it a rest. When I was in high school, I played less my senior year in basketball than I did my junior year. We had a new coach that year. Everybody wanted to blame it on politics, but we had some young players that were better than me.

I coach high school basketball and track (assistant coach for both, thankfully), and I almost never see it when the best player isn't playing. Other factors like attitude and work ethic come into play too, and parents refuse to pay attention to that. If you have a kid that's reasonably competitive with everybody else on the team and out-works everybody else, that kid will play and probably be the coach's favorite. If you have somebody who's more talented but has a terrible attitude or doesn't work hard in practice, he's going to drive the coach crazy and get less playing time. Parents don't see that and they start accusing the coaches of playing politics. I've seen it a million times, and I wish it would stop.

I don't know the Muller situation at all, I just wanted to climb up on my soapbox for a minute. Carry on.

Good post!! I think your comments are spot on. Parents have a pretty difficult time looking at things like this objectively, but think about it. When a coach's job security depends upon how many games he wins, why would he not play the kids who give him the best chance to win. That just doesn't make any sense. I'm not saying that politics is never a factor, but I think it's probably much more rare than most people would like to think.
