Early Season Boys Basketball Favorites
I know it is just after Christmas and to early to tell who will be playing for it all come March, but give some insight and suggestions in whatever class you follow the most who appear to be the favorites to cut down the nets in March for each Classification.
Class AA- Champ- Billings West. All Billings final as West beats Skyview
Class A- Champ- Dillon. Stevensville looks impressive and athletic, however, C Falls is always good and returns some quality players. Ditto for Dillon. C Falls and Dillon have by far the two best coaches in Class A and also the players with the most "big game" experience, they play for it again in March with Dillon coming out on top this year.
Class B- Champ- Manhattan. Manhattan beats Malta for the chipper
Class C-Champ- Twin Bridges. Twin beats Fairview in football rematch.

Looks like some pretty sound picks to me. West is going to be very hard to beat this year and might have the best player in the state in Robison. Glacier is the best team in the west for what it is worth. Not sure if they will be able to make any noise at state this year but they don't lose any of their studs this year so next year they might be able to make a run.catpound wrote:I know it is just after Christmas and to early to tell who will be playing for it all come March, but give some insight and suggestions in whatever class you follow the most who appear to be the favorites to cut down the nets in March for each Classification.

C.Falls beat Dillon in the first game this year but I suspect there was still a bit of a football hang-over there. That very well could have been a championship preview/rematch. Stevie did not have a Sr on their roster in either of the last two years. A very young team has grown up and it will be interesting to see how they fare.

West is Good with Robinson and Gustafson. But Bozeman flat out, out hustled them last night. They don't appear to have a lot in the backcourt. Bozeman beat them with a 6'4 post player and four 6' guards.

I'm going to chalk up that win to A tuesday night road game during Finals Week just a few days after West's biggest game of the season(Skyview), to a team that just lost to Senior a week ago in Bozeman. Im guessing it won't happen again, but Im surprised it happened at all.
I swear, it's like I'm playin' cards with my brother's kids or somethin'. You nerve-wrackin' sons-a-bitches.'

I might eat crow on Malta--they are playing really well as of late. They beat Whitehall today by 4.LTown Cat wrote:catpound wrote:I know it is just after Christmas and to early to tell who will be playing for it all come March, but give some insight and suggestions in whatever class you follow the most who appear to be the favorites to cut down the nets in March for each Classification.

Not gonna be Skyview. Just got upset by #7 seed Great Falls High 48_46. First time ever that a #7 seed has knocked of a #2 in the basketball playoffs?catpound wrote:I know it is just after Christmas and to early to tell who will be playing for it all come March, but give some insight and suggestions in whatever class you follow the most who appear to be the favorites to cut down the nets in March for each Classification.

For those of you going to watch, Quinn McQueary is one heck of a basketball player from Manhattan. I would think that he's a prospect for the Bobcats on both a basketball and a football level.

Looks like I fared pretty well on predictions. I know I missed on Skyview, but still believe West will win it. Class A Dillon and C Falls were definitely the two best teams at the tourney and the best team won there. Dillon by far outclassed everyone there, just like football. Class B I really thought Manhattan would win in their backyard, sounds like that was a good game. Have to admit taking Malta in January was a shot in the dark. Class C Fairview and Twin were the best two teams in C as their Semifinal matchup indicated goint to OT and both teams having no trouble with their Saturday night opponents.catpound wrote:I know it is just after Christmas and to early to tell who will be playing for it all come March, but give some insight and suggestions in whatever class you follow the most who appear to be the favorites to cut down the nets in March for each Classification.

Re: Early Season Boys Basketball Favorites
I was surprised to see that Western AA won 3 out of 4 games in both boys and girls yesterday. The last few years Eastern AA has been pretty dominant. Of course, boys #2 seed Skyview was upset by #7 GFH and girls #3 West was upset by #6 Butte in the Eastern AA playoffs, so that had something to do with the West's success.
