Wrong again. In the past 5 years at the state tournaments on the boys and girls side in basketball, the average official selected has worked 2.5 tournaments (or basically every other year) in that time period. So, no, it's not the same officials every year. But it's also not a normal curve if you look at the distribution--34% of the state tournament officials only worked 1 tournament in the last 5 years, 21% worked 2 tournaments, 18% worked 3 tournaments, 13% worked 4 tournaments, and 13% worked one tournament all five years. Long story short, over 55% of the officials who worked state tournaments in the last 5 years in basketball worked 2 or less in that time period. And the guys and gals who have worked 3 or more state tournaments in the last 5 years are at the top of their game. Sorry, but as much as you want to deny it, there's obviously a widely held belief among coaches at every classification on both the boys and girls side that the officiating pool in Bozeman has some serious issues.catamaran wrote:Unless you're in the room voting, how can you be sure EVERY school is as honorable as you claim. As you can see in any mailing by the MHSA there are a lot of schools that don't even bother to vote. Take a look at the officials at any sport at any level, they don't change from year to year. Are they consistently the best or are they just voted for because everyone knows them. I assume by your condescending answer that you're an official and know how the process works
And the sad part is this, Bozeman's basketball teams on both the boys and girls sides have been consistently so good during this time period, that they don't even need any help to win games. They're gonna win games on their own accord because of their players and coaches. But imagine how frustrating it is for AA coaches to go there, get beat, and getting piled on with poor officiating. That's why you don't see any AA coaches voting for them on their ballots! Interestingly though, you obviously don't have any Class A, B, or C coaches voting for them either. So, is it bias or incompetence?
Finally, part of the officials code is to not criticize fellow officials in any way shape or form publicly. So, count me out as to being an official...lol.
