1987 Bozeman Hawks Football
I'm sure everyone on this board is pretty familiar with Corey Widmer's career. A few days ago I found out that he and a Redskins defensive end, Shane Collins, both graduated from BHS in 1987. So now I'm curious about that team. Does anyone here know much about the 87 team?

I'll give you a guess when I graduated.
I don't remember exactly how many they won in '87 but I don't think it was more than 4. Which was an improvement over the previous two years when we won 1 per season. We had a horrible head coach. Both Corey and Shane were and are really good guys and phenomenal athletes.

Hawk basketball was the more dominant team at that time... beginning of the Bob Cole era. 6'5" Collins and the 6'9" Fuller kid who transfered in from Park High were pretty imposing for teams to deal with.

Thanks, guys.
I don't understand how anybody moves the ball on a Montana HS team with two future NFLers on the line, but apparently it's possible.

San Diego's .613 winning percentage the past five years begs to differ.allcat wrote:Talent can't overcome lack of coaching.BLACKnBLUEnGOLD wrote:Thanks, guys.

Norv seems to coach his teams to mediocracy. It is always tough to fire Marty.BLACKnBLUEnGOLD wrote:San Diego's .613 winning percentage the past five years begs to differ.allcat wrote:Talent can't overcome lack of coaching.BLACKnBLUEnGOLD wrote:Thanks, guys.

Back then the Hawks would have been playing against the Corontzas kid from Great Falls who went on to QB for Wyoming and ultimately won them a bowl game. Needless to say, he was pretty good at moving the ball.BLACKnBLUEnGOLD wrote:Thanks, guys.

I remember one game that they lost 66-2 or something close to it. They were always the doormat for the rest of the state. I graduated from Belgrade in 88 and we played the Hawks JVs for a homecoming game in 85 or 86 as a Class B school. Kicked their arses all over the field.
