Could this be Idaho State's year?

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Fri Jan 19, 2007 3:46 pm

I taped the Bengal vs. griz men's b-ball game and watched some of it. I'm really impressed with ISU. They're athletic, good shooters, and appear to have some inside presence. They totally shut down Andrew Strait of the griz.

I can't remember ISU ever winning-or even really being in the hunt for a Big Sky title-I'm guessing you have to go back to the early 70's when they were a regional power for a while. I know they hosted the women's tourney a few years back and got over 7,000 in Holt Arena for the championship. A men's tournament in Pocatello would probably be a really big deal.

If MSU doesn't win it (I'm thinking we're a few years away), I hope ISU can win the league and host the tourney.

I think ISU made a believer out of me last night. The only question I have is they the cream of the crop or just one of 2-3 team to who will press for the league tourney. The only question mark I have is that there have been plenty of young teams that have dominated the first 1/2 of the conference and then falter in the second 1/2 when teams start to dial them in. Granted most of the time those young teams were wearing blue and gold in the past few years still.....

Despite their tough loss to the Bobcats tonight I think ISU has a really good chance this year. Their first 5 are very solid. But they definitely lack depth which could haunt them if they have any injuries. They could also wear down. Their point guard never sits and he plays very hard. I'd be surprised if plays his current pace all season.

If it was a bench press contest they'd win easily-they've got some physically strong guys.

Could be tired legs? They are not very deep and that will probably be their achilles heal.

I was surprised at little their big guy got against us-he looked really tough against the griz. Morris did a nice job on him.

Still-I'd pay money to watch ISU and WSU play eachother in Pocatello on Thursday night. Any chance that game is on Altitude?
