Lady Griz ESPN article

Post by griz420 » Thu Jan 18, 2007 1:22 pm

Interseting article on on Lady Griz and others about to crack the top 25.

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/womenbb/index

I like how every national article about UM or MSU always has some reference to living in log cabins and were all hicks, even though the lady was using it to our denfense.

If the lady griz didn't get blown out by Ohio State by 40 they probably would be there already.

Here is the link to the story. The link above only goes to the ESPN CWBB homepage. The story is there, but that will likely change soon with an update.

Good for the Lady Griz, I hope they make it into the Top 25.

Serious question, has any Big Sky Basketball team, men's or women's, ever been nationally ranked in a Top 25 poll? And I am meaning in the current era, so I am not overlooking the Golden Bobcats.

In the early 80s Idaho's men reached somewhere around Top 16 if I remember right.

I will have to look, but I think in 92 or 93 the lady griz were in the top 20. I will have to look.

If I remember correctly, they were ranked as high as 7th in either 1981 or 1982

Didn't the Lady Griz crack the Top 25 about 3 years ago?

I know Idaho got to eighth in 82 and they may well have made it to seventh; also, ISU in the early 70s usually got into the top 25 and Weber with Willie Sojoiner (sp???) got top 25 rankings virtually every year and would lose to either Long Beach State or UCLA in the west regional. Big Sky used to be a pretty big deal.

I think the Lady Griz were pretty highly ranked when Shanan Kate was leading them. That must of been in the early 90's. I remember they darn near beat top ranked USC with Lisa Leslie in the tourney that year.
