ESPNs 1-A rankings for 2007
According to ESPN, the Cats will open against a top 15 team in the country.

There are two reasons why I hate preseason rankings. The first is that they are extremely arbitrary. The second is that they do matter at the end of the season.Bay Area Cat wrote:According to ESPN, the Cats will open against a top 15 team in the country.

Pick some teams with big names, place them high, and make everyone else climb the latter. Boise State never starts in the top ten, whereas Florida and Texas always start in the top ten, even after miserable seasons.
If the rankings didn't matter in the end, I'd be fine with such a system. However, ask Auburn in 2004 (or California in 2004) or Oregon in 2005 about the importance of starting with a high ranking. For that matter, ask Boise State.

Excellent points ... and (as is often the case whenever someone praises the quality of someone else's post) I totally agree.theblackgecko wrote:There are two reasons why I hate preseason rankings. Here's a 1A poll from CNN, doesn't have A&M in the top 25. They DO have Boise State much higher which I like...

It's been said that Notre Dame is ratings and gate green and gold. But, did anyone actually watch them get blown out in the Sugar Bowl? Or in last year's Fiesta Bowl?BobcatLionFan wrote:Simple reason is Money. Put them in a bowl and you get huge TV and gate revenues.mslacat wrote:............. and yet Notre Dame will still play in and get blown away in a BSC Bowl Game
Nothing magic about the wildcard BSC bowl teams
Here's a link on the matter.
