Hauck interviews with Stanford?

Post by mslacat » Tue Dec 12, 2006 9:14 am

It was reported today in the Great Falls Trib that Bobby Hauck is not leaving UM. The interview even quotes Bobby in saying so. So it should come as no surprise that that a friend of mine tells me he inteviewed with Stanford Sunday in Salt Lake. Now I have a feeling my friends source was also the New York Times so it still a long shot rumor. Stanford says they will announce their new coach in a day or two. It is also reported that they interviewed quite a handful high profile coaches Sunday, in Salt Lake.

Stay tuned...........................................

I understand one can never get enough experience in the formal interview process. He was really blasted by his own for his answer about coaching at his alma mater not being his ultimate dream job.

Swarthout and crew began the flood to that area, going first to San Jose (and what happened to that program from then on) and Elway wound up in Stanford. He doesn't appear to have the presona of Montgomery, however (but there was a tremendous difference in his answers this year in that he's obviously matured.)

From the San Jose Mercury:
In addition to Fassel, Stanford has had contact with University of San Diego Coach Jim Harbaugh, San Diego Chargers assistant James Lofton, Auburn offensive coordinator Al Borges, Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti and, according to the Times, Montana Coach Bobby Hauck.
I don't doubt this at all. Hauck said he forgot that he had to do a post game show after the UMass loss. Really. He did one the first three years, but somehow didn't realize that and booked a flight to SLC that day. Give me a break.

This is from egriz, but according to KPAX Hauck is a finalist for the Stanford job.

Timing, timing. When we hired Kramer we had a week lead on the Griz in our search for a new coach. On the way back from Bozeman after he had interviewed and felt pretty confident that he had the MSU job, Kramer got a cell phone call from UM about interviewing for their job opening (the one Glen eventually got). Kramer was asked if he could stop by Missoula on his way back to EWU for an interview for the Griz job. Kramer, sitting in his car out side St. Regis had to deside whether to turn around and go back to Missoula (50 miles) of turn them down. He turned them down. Some say Kramer was the Griz's first choice, other say he was the back up to Glenn if he refused the Job. Timing matters!

But Glenn really was a bust for us wasn't he? The only people I ever hear that Griz contacted Kramer from are Cat fans. That being said, maybe everyone else is in denial...anyway, task at hand: I just don't see Hauck getting this job. If he did get it, it would be because Stanford felt they needed to start pretty much fresh with a young coach with new ideas. Thoughts?

“I think I've heard every coach that's coached against the Grizzlies this year sit up here and say, ‘You know, we're better than those guys, and we can beat those guys,' ” said Kramer. “You know what? The truth is you ain't. So shut. The heck. Up.

He is definitely going up against some pretty stiff competition. I don't know that his resume stacks up against some of the others but you never know.

BH does have some things that would be very attractive to a program like Stanford. First and foremost, he recruits good students and demands that they achieve in the classroom as well as on the field. Second, he's got a lot of experience and contacts in the Pac 10. And finally, his recruiting experience is all from the west. I, too, doubt he'll get the job. But I can see why he'd be an attractive applicant for Stanford.

What a glowing endorsement. Based on that he should be replacing Pete Carroll at USC. Pete can't even come close to all that. Makes me wonder what's your definition of good, demand, achieve, a lot, experience and attractive.

Hauck will not get a hc at a pac 10 or other major conference. Look at who the schools are replacing their coaches....guys who have head coaching(1A),nfl coaching experience, or former coaches. None of the major bcs conferences are interested in 1aa coaches. I'm talking today, not tressel time. If hauck wants to hold out for western michigan, etc. that's going to be his only hope for a hc position. Now he might get a look as a coordinator which I think would be his best route if he aspires to be a hc at a bcs school. I'm not saying that 1aa coaches don't deserve a shot, but the trend TODAY is for high level experience. Hauck got an interview with stanford as a courtesy/curiosity. North texas, not a bcs school, just went the jerry foust route.

I personally have never thought much of B.H. but a person really can't argue with his record at UM. I am kinda rooting for him to get the job at Stanford and for him to succeed there. It's always good to see somebody from Montana do great things.

It is good that Hauck is interviewing for a big job like Stanford however I can't see him getting it over the high profile names that also are in consideration. I hope he finds a job but I want it to be long after MSU has already found and hired their new head coach (Van Diest). :)

i always thought that that was pretty common knowledge. in fact, if i remember right, the reason that so many of us fell in love with krames right off the bat is because he showed a lot of class keeping his word to msu after um offered him. it would have been damn easy to go there, with that program, and with the guys um had, and make a run at a championship. which they won right? can't believe that some of you have forgot that already. couldn't have been an easy decision for him.

do you have to know everything to post here? or just think you do?

Don't mean to get this thread kind of back on the Hauck topic, but here's a "reliable source" and contributor to the rumor mill about who else is in the running for the Idaho job

I think they just gather what they have heard through papers and such. I don't think Hauck interviewed with Idaho. It seems like someone from one of the papers over there just came up with a list of potential candidates and he was on it.

“I think I've heard every coach that's coached against the Grizzlies this year sit up here and say, ‘You know, we're better than those guys, and we can beat those guys,' ” said Kramer. “You know what? The truth is you ain't. So shut. The heck. Up.
